I like that he’s said he would get rid of the Departments of Education and Energy along with the EPA. I got the feeling that he is one guy who would actually do it. But the border issue is a deal breaker for me.
President Reagan tried to get rid of Education just two years after it was created (when it was subdivided from HEW into two parts, the other being Health & Human Services), but was wholly unable to. There’s never been a department abolition in the history of the country (although Navy, which was a full-fledged Cabinet Office at the start of the nation, was merged with the Department of War after the end of WW2 into Defense, although “Secretary of the Navy” still exists, but is a sub-department under Defense).
