BALTIMORE (WJZ) Do you want out of the state of Maryland? A new poll shows nearly half of Marylanders say they are fed up and ready to pack up if only they could.
Meghan McCorkell explains what has so many thinking about leaving.
In a poll of all 50 states, Maryland ranks third for people who say they would rather move somewhere else.
Weve got the beach, the mountains, the Os and Natty Boh, but some say theyre ready to break up with Maryland.
According to a new Gallup poll, 47 percent of Marylanders say they would move out of the state if they could. Only 17 percent are likely to leave.
The top reasons people want outwork or business.
I think theres better opportunity elsewhere, one man said.
Other reasons are family and friends, plus the weather, which is not surprising after last winter.
I just wish summer would be here, a man shoveling snow said.
And, of course, there are taxes.
Everybodys paying more fees, more taxes, and I think, at some point, people get tired of it, said Rep. Andy Harris, (R) Maryland.
“We are becoming the United Banana-Republic States of America.”
IMO, what identifies a country as being a banana republic is having a corrupt regime, so yes, we have been a Banana Republic for over 6 years.
We are the United Banana=Republic States of America. That happened November 4, 2008.
Only reasons to be in Hawaii, Asian foods, weather so great that a winter coat is a long sleeve shirt. After that nobody can build or create new things because they want everything to stay the same.
I wouldn’t live there.
I understand that on Oahu “da bruddahs” have made a local sport out of beating up whites who offended them. They cut someone off & when the haole beeps his horn, the bruddah says “want beef?” and starts throwing punches.
Have a friend stationed at Schofield Barracks. She’s black, her husband is white. They get very hostile looks in the no-go zones.
All I had was an address, they had no phone. I searched for the street for almost an hour and finally saw a black cop going in to McDonald's. I followed him in and as he sat down with his breakfast I showed him the address I was trying to find.
He looked at it and looked up at me and said "I'll tell you how to get there but I won't go with you... and I have a gun."
The mother and father (both in their 70's) were sitting on the curb waiting for me and jumped in and said "Go!" like they had just robbed a bank.
Post Script - the kid survived and was one of my best soldiers. I hope he didn't go back to that hell hole.
Just over the last week there has been an uptick in Maryland license plate sightings. Scouting out the surroundings?
Obama's children and federal employees and contractors keep voting in the slobs. It is the other 47% who want to leave.
It’s not so much that people want out of Illinois as it is people want out of Chicago (or, truth be told, they want Chicago out of Illinois). Break Chicago’s hold on the state (and that means breaking the power and control of Chicago Dems in Springfield, people like the arrogant and pugnacious Mike Madigan and his virulently anti-gun daughter Lisa, the state’s attorney general, whose only qualification for the job was her last name, as she had pretty much no legal experience at all), and Illinois is a red state. It recently elected a Republican business man as governor, and, while he is no banner-carrying social conservative, he is arguably a moderate, except on fiscal matters, where he is much closer to a conservative.
The problem with Illinois is not Illinois, the problem with Illinois is Chicago.
“Wide open spaces” of South Florida? I guess you don’t live in the overdeveloped lib-run multicultural cesspools of the People’s Republic of Broward or El Condado de Miami Dade. Ditto most of the sixth borough of Palm Beach County.
Colorado is full too.
The problem is that when the Marylanders move, they continue to vote for the things that ruined Maryland in the first place.
Great story !
Nope. Live in Highlands County. I travel daily in Hardee, Desoto and east Manatee. Farm, cattle and citrus country.
Lots of Jersey folks, too.
Spot on. That’s why “progessive” is a complete characterization of the Left’s ideology ... as in cancer is a “progressive” disease.
When was this article written? It's 80 degrees there today.
Ah, in the heartland of Florida! Love driving through that area.
