Depending on whom you ask, “Jade Helm 15” is either a domestic military training exercise or a covert operation for the federal government to take over the state of Texas – and 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz just became the latest Republican to fan the flames of the latter theory.
Speaking at the South Carolina Republican Party’s annual convention Saturday, the Texas senator told Bloomberg’s David Weigel that his office had contacted the Pentagon about the exercise, which officially consists of a series of training drills throughout the Southwest for about 1,200 special operations personnel, including Green Berets and Navy SEALs. Conspiracy theorists operating on the fringes of the conservative blogosphere, however, have other ideas about what the exercise, known as Jade Helm 15, is intended to do – such as implement martial law, seize Americans’ guns, and imprison political dissidents.
Rather than squash those theories outright, Cruz apparently decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
“My office has reached out to the Pentagon to inquire about this exercise,” he said. “We are assured it is a military training exercise. I have no reason to doubt those assurances, but I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens don’t trust what it is saying.”(continued)

But you say that Ted Cruz is a terrible, untrustworthy person because he went straight to the military to get answers for his constituents’ questions and concerns.
I’d laugh my head off if Cruz’ exact words to the military when he asked were “Please educate us as to the purpose and history of this exercise.” LOLOL.
As she was leaving office Janet Napolitano - and a dem US Rep (IIRC) at the same time also - made comments about an imminent disaster that would make everything else suffered thus far pale by comparison.
I wondered why nobody asked them exactly what they were talking about.
Shortly after that was an “earthquake” off the Atlantic coast that Russia said looked like a nuclear detonation, and that an insider said was a US nuke detonated there instead of in SC where Obama had ordered it to be detonated. According to the story, the 2 military leaders who foiled the plan (in the same fashion that you suggest any of our Special Forces or SEALs would do) were ousted for gambling and loss of confidence, IIRC.
And then shortly after that there was the shooting in the Navy Yard. Was that the time when Congress wore “Thank you, Congressional SEcurity” (or whatever) buttons on the same day as the event?
Vermont Lt, What can you tell us about the “Night of the Long Knives” under Hitler, and what has been happening within the US military in the last 6 years? What can you tell us about the legality of how David Petraeus and Gen. Allen were snooped on by the US government, to get rid of them? What can you tell us about who in the US military approved an imam to curse the bodies of the SEALs killed in Extortion 17 - and how the whole US military rose up in huge reaction to protest the illegality of that (HA!)? And by the way, does that mean that there were 16 previous “Extortions”?
You try imagining them telling the CINC to go pound sand when he orders them to secure an area under martial law.
Show me ANY time when Special Forces or SEALs told the CINC to go pound sand when given an order to secure an area. Show me one time when that happened.
Waco is different because I’m specifically talking about what was supposed to be a military training exercise, which Waco wasn’t.
Bill Clinton held military training exercised where the townspeople, including law enforcement, were never informed before the exercise.
Clinton was clearly hoping for a confrontation between civilians and military.
Just suppose that an Adolf Hitler became CINC; how would our system stop him from doing something “crazy”? How are our military people better than the Germans in Hitler’s army? How is our system better prepared to stop a “Night of the Long Knives” than they were? How does our military system hold the CINC in check better than the German military?
Tell me all the reasons why this could never happen here like it did there - given that all the techniques that were used to degrade both the system of accountability (and the integrity of each military person’s ethics) there can also be used here (and are actually certifiably being used, as per “small government” people being called “terrorists” in DHS communications with LE, the military actively muzzling Christians, etc).
To get military people to willingly gas to death millions of people, all Hitler had to do was use the propaganda machine to convince people that handicapped people are a burden, that “greedy Jews” caused the economic problems, and that the whole country would be better off without dissent to “slow down recovery”.
Look at what’s going on in the military to get rid of “homophobes” and in the society at large to marginalize Christians and/or Constitutionalists as xenophobic, racist, hate-mongers.... and tell me how that is any different than how Hitler’s propaganda machine prepared the German society to create a military perfectly capable of “just following orders” when told to gas their own countrymen.
Our military should NOT be networking at this level with the locals. Comfortable casual chains of command are being established...

The “15” means 2015 as is SOP with military exercises. Any active duty servicemember would know this. An ROTC cadet ...not so much. And shouldn’t you have graduated by now and be in service? So what’s your MOS and where have you been?
