The owner of Z Pizza says she’s being forced to close her doors, because she can’t afford the higher labor costs.

...

Ritu Shah Burnham doesn’t want to go out of business, but says she can’t afford the city’s mandated wage hikes.

...

Shah Burnham is concerned about where her employees will end up when she does close. “I absolutely am terrified for them. I have no idea where they’re going to find jobs, because if I’m cutting hours, I imagine everyone is across the board.”

I forgot to add that the George Soros funded Center for Economic Policy is calling for a $21 minimum wage. These Marxists to take down Capitalism know very well the effect a raise in the minimum wage has on businesses. This is one of their Trojan Horses to destroy the Anerican Empire. The other one is the Southern Border.

I’d hate to own a pizza shop in Seattle anywhere near the city line. Northern Massachusetts (sales tax 6.25% or 7.00% - local option) is a retail dead zone, when you’re five minutes from tax free New Hampshire you ain’t gonna sell a lot of laptops, liquor or appliances.

I read the LA and NY Times. The pro $15-an-hour articles are all without exception written from the viewpoint of those who are sympathetic and deliberately misleading, or lazy in their investigation.

Not a word about how automation will replace the workers ... not a word about how increased labor costs will increase costs of their food, all food, all products in general ... not a word about how unions and government are pushing for this because it will increase union wages per union contracts.

It's all "they deserve more, they can't live on what they make, CEOs make this much, blah, blah, blah."

The controversy about min wage has reached my hometown of La Crosse Wis and was on the local news today. One local drive-in restaurant worker talked about how she made $12 an hour and was happy to make it. The owner explained that to get good workers, he had to pay more than min wage.

But what shocked me was they then interviewed a local college econ. prof who said that artificial min. wage laws are counter-productive. I about fell out of my chair. Many college econ profs. are hardcore libs. And this guy looked fairly young. I hope he has a lot of students in his classes.

They are going on welfare food stamps etc and one day will be, if they are not now, good little democrat voters. They will be the slaves of their government. Wonder how the pizza shop owner votes? Ms. Burnham, if you are not a Marxist voter, find a state that values business and relocate there. If you are a Marxist voter then please stay where you are and enjoy the fruits of your voting.

-——What’s the problem? Raise your prices. If a couple bucks more cost per hour is going to close your business, then you shouldn’t be open in the first place...-——

Except it isn’t just a couple of bucks....

For every dollar in wages you pay as an employer, there are payroll added costs like additional SS, Medicaid taxes, additional unemployment insurance, state and federal...

Depends on the job and hourly rate, add on between 25 to 35 % more...

That additional payroll and cost can cost a small business $ 15,000 or more a year....eat up their profit in a heartbeat...

Tell you what, Sparky, you tell me how you’ve voted at the state and local level and then we’ll see if I can gin up any sympathy for you.

My hunch tells me this person is all supportive of the Marxist agenda until reality smacked her/him upside the head, and now it’s all over except for feeling sorry about the future employment of your now former employees.

The best pizza in Seattle is Zeek’s Pizza with about eight locations in the area.
http://zeekspizza.com/

I used to think pizza was just pizza, but after eating theirs I’m a pizza snob. I’ve heard there is a pizza joint in Everett that’s supposed to be even better.

We reached out to 15 Now Seattle, the organization that pushed for the higher minimum wage. Director Jess Spear hadn’t heard about Z Pizza’s decision to close. So she wouldn’t comment specifically on that, only saying: “Restaurants open and close all the time, for various reasons.”

Thank you, Miss Congeniality. Hope you have room for 12 supper guests. They'll be hungry and maybe a little cranky...

most liberals don’t understand that if you raise the minim wage you horribly mess up the lower wage worker. upping the minimum wage causes inflation to hit 3-6 moths later as the markets adjust to having to pay the higher wage. because of this all that happens is that the loyal worker that has slowly seen his wages go up because the employer values the employee suddenly looses what ever pay differential they have from the newly hired workers. when this happens the same worker is having to deal with the inflation caused by the increase in minimum wage so the reality for a person working at a low paying job is that they loose purchasing power.

Then those liberals should be forced to patronize her now, more expensive pizza place.

Ah, rainbows and unicorns and all will be right in the world.
