Interesting complication to this situation. What happens if a worker causes an accident while hungover on pot. Wonder what insurance companies think of this new work environment.

Can’t blame the guy at all.

I wouldn’t want workers showing up drunk either.

I’m not sure why anyone would think that being stoned on the job would not affect their performance in a very negative way.

If you are going to get high, do it on your own time.

Not shocked. It’s still illegal here and yet I’ve had business owners tell me that over 60% of their applicants fail the drug test.

Funny, SC is one of the states I have been considering moving too as well. Decent cost of living, cheap gas, and plenty of job opportunities.

“What happens if a worker causes an accident while hungover on pot.”

What happens if a worker causes an accident while hungover on booze?

There's no excuse for going to work while impaired by the influence of any drug, legal or illegal. Even if you have a white-collar job, your impairment puts your employer at risk.

I have an anti-migraine medication that I only take when OTC drugs don't work. But, I go home before I take it, because it makes me a bit dizzy.

Did he not have a policy of not showing up for work stoned or drunk? But then, what quality of worker does he think he will get for the wages warehouse workers make?

The insurance companies already have the stats on marijuana usage and accidents on the job. When you are injured on thejob and taken to the hospital, a blood sample is automatically taken for a drug screen (of all types).

I assume it’s really tough finding CDL truck drivers.

A lot of young guys flunk the drug test in states where it’s still illegal.

I don’t think the Colo laws override the CDL requirement.

Most pot users do not embrace the concept of personal responsibility.

For over 40 years, most dopers have argued stubbornly that they do everything better while high on pot.

According to the article, “a ‘nasty’ local government regulator” also influenced Brawner’s decision to move the business to South Carolina. Such local government regulators are very common, even in some of the most remote and sparsely populated parts of CO. That includes some majority Republican counties (radical environmentalists, animal worshipers, all).

In places with lots of drug testing, workers are more likely to abuse alcohol, Rx pills and synthetic pot (all far more impairing and toxic than real pot). I work in construction and know the drill.

Drug tests are also useless for anything other than pot (the only fat-soluble drug). You can do all the meth, blow, heroin and PCP you want and pass a drug test within 24 hours. But if you smoke a single joint 1 week ago, it may show up.

Drug testing is nothing but a scam to sell more booze and Rx pills to people who will choose to get shitfaced nomatter that.

The one I had experience with, The insurance company came off his claim and Work’s Comp cancelled his benefits. He was on his own for his medical expense and to find another job. But, in the end, he went back to work for the State of Florida. He was on work release. He almost cut his hand off on a table saw. He was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment and the hospital also took a blood sample. When the results of the blood sample revealed that he had meth in his system, his place of employment call the placement Officer at the institution and informed him of the results of the blood test and also informed the placement officer that the inmate was terminated for drug use. And since he was injured with drugs in his system, his insurance and Workman’s Comp was no good. He was returned to prison for violating the terms of his work release.

This was known long before it was legalized. It’s simply one example of how legalization affects workers and companies. It will only get worse.

The continued popularity of the senior senator from SC makes me suspect that a good percentage of that state’s population is walking around in a drug-induced daze also.

That’s a policy issue. Alcohol is legal too but you can require your workers not to be drunk!
