Fast-food giant McDonald's said Wednesday it would announce a turnaround plan in two weeks as sinking US sales dragged down profits again in the first quarter.
The ubiquitous burger-and-fries chain said US sales, the largest share of global income, fell 2.6 percent from a year ago for comparable outlets.

I’ve notice the same problem with prices. I recently got the filet o fish combo meal at the drive through, which was 7.33.
It was more than I expected, and made me think I should go to Subway or some other local sandwich place to get lunch when I’m on the go or don’t feel like making lunch.
I can see where feeding a family at McD is not as cheap as people might think. If you can go to a sit down family restaurant for the same price, and get better food there, it seems like a no brainer to do so.
The low quality of McDonalds food is not worth paying a premium price for.
“Never had a McRib, have no desire to based on the shape of the thing...faux ribs pressed into the shape of the things...ungh.”
And it’s not just the shape; check this out:
My local McDonald’s has removed the napkin dispenser, after several weeks of a sticker on it that read “Please take only what you need”. Now they put the napkins on the tray & give you only one napkin per meal ordered. When you have 4 kids there, you have to beg for more, after warning them of messes to come.
The dollar menu is pretty much gone. Many patronize fast food joints because they are cheap and fast. Since most have gone to $5.00 burgers for the same old-same old, fixing the food at home becomes an economic no-brainer in an Obama economy. McDonalds was among the first to obtain an Obamacare subsidy and among the first to go "healthy" when kids want to go there to get their french fry fix, not apples and carrot sticks ala Mooch.
Interesting...
Every time I go McDonalds, the drive-thru lines are huge, and the parking lots is full. What do I know.
Have had some nasty experiences with “formed” patties in the past...
Can’t get past it...so items like McRib and the $1 menu “chicken” sandwiches are off the menu.
BK used to have chicken fries or sticks, forget what they called them exactly, but were actual strips off a breast that were fried...actually pretty good until they changed them to the “restructured” format...now, it’s a gelatinous mess...much like McNuggets.
Just a personal preference borne out of experience...to each their own.
They used to have the best fries. Now they are soft and greasy. I quit buying their food because of their fries.
I like a lot of pepper on my food and most fast food restaurants have removed pepper shakers. Lots even make you ask for the little millionth of a gram pepper packet thingies. When I'm wanting 12 of them they will start out offering one or two making me feel guilty for asking for fricking pepper. Wendy's and Taco Bells rock for not being that way.
The hip-hop “I’m Lovin’ It” marketing campaign was brand suicide. It was obvious when they first launched it the the early 2000s.
The only time I see the inside of the McD’s now is when someone posts a video of some feral counter beatdown on WorldStar HipHop.
McDonald’s is very expensive and low quality
I’d much rather spend the same amount for better quality food.
Mayor McCheese will officiate the "marriage" ceremony.
You are not far off.
The turnaround plan should be to dump any and all programs intended to please Moochelle and Barack Obama by being Green/Sustainable/Healthy/Low Fat/Low Carb/Uber-Diverse/Unappealing to Children and go back to serving food and marketing themselves like they did in the 1970’s.
I don’t eat there very frequently - but when I do I often have a negative experience regarding the quality of their employees. Surly, impolite, stupid and unconcerned. And while you wait for your food, you have time to infer that they may be unhygienic as well. I would suggest that McDonald’s substitute capital for labor and implement automation - robotic food preparation and a reduced headcount of employees. Select much better employees, a la Chick-fil-A.
McD has the best fast food breakfasts bar none. Odd they can’t replicate that success on the rest of the menu.
Near my house there is a Chick-Fil-A and a McDonald’s. There is always a long line at the Chick-Fil-A, and barely any line at McDonald’s.
And here in Texas we have What-A-Burger and now In-And-Out Burger, who needs McDonald’s?
McDs da da da da da I ain’t lovin’ it so much.
Burger King has better cheese burgers and shakes.
Wendy’s has better fries. IMO.
***And maybe their marketing to the ghetto crowd ***
Many years go we stopped at a McDonalds in a heavily black area. The staff were a mixture of white an black workers.
On the paper mat they put on our tray, was a contest...”WIN A FREE TRIP TO THE MOTHER COUNTRY!” with a drawing of Africa and the area around the Congo, Nigeria,Cameroon area.
Wonder whom McDs was pandering to? I never saw such a mat in any other McDonalds except there.
Simple.
Mcdonalds is losing market share.
The competition is always better for the same or better price.
There is a food wholesaler where I live that sells the McRib meat. It’s basically a shaped sausage. At tailgates and cookouts, they are always the first thing to go. As Emeril would say: “It’s a pork fat thing.”
IMO, the problem with McDonald’s is that they haven’t kept their menu aligned with the changing tastes of America. People watch Food Network, they want a real, fresh meat burger made to order.
