Just like some whigs came to the republican party. Not all did.
You pollute the discussion with your insistence that the two are the same. Things are much more complicated than your simple viewpoint. And it is your viewpoint.

I see libertarianism as a tendency in American poltics. The party is the distilled version of it, but the tendency has more impact than the party.
Many of the strategy and tactics around business issues, like regulation, taxes - comes from the libertarian point of view. Reason Magazine's take on drugs and prostitution haven't gained much traction in the GOP, but if you go read their articles about regulations, government agencies, or analysis around specific topics they appear to be setting the mainstream GOP agenda fairly frequently.
Not a hobby horse, conservative opposition to an ideology that opposes conservatism.
Where is this intense war between libertarians in theory and evasions, and libertarians willing to write it down as a political position, being fought, how come none of us can find it?
The same old conservatism mostly, but for some reason libertarians are trying to erase conservatism from conservative economics.
Libertarianism makes conservative economics and small, limited government, impossible. Only conservatism can return us to limited government.
Classical libertarianism goes back in several forms to the 1700s.

Classical libertarianism doesn't oppose conservatism. Anyone that wants to claim differently is a very narrow person that has a very narrow view of history.

It was called “Classical Liberalism”, before the Communists hijacked the term “Liberal”.
A rewriting of history, America was founded by deeply religious conservatives, not libertarianism which was created by the European left much later.
Anyone trying to explain the importance of gay marriage and abortion and hookers and porn and gays in the military, and so on, in 1790 would be looking for a lynching, not cheering from the people of America.

From the article, there are two paragraphs that impressed me the most, firstly:

I suspect not everyone here is right now inclined to support me, so ask the hardest questions you have and let’s have a conversation.” Emphasizing the importance of forthrightness, he added a promise on his end. “I’m not gonna blow smoke at you. Where there are areas we agree I’ll tell you, where there (are areas) where we disagree I’ll tell you… And I hope you will come to conclude that where we are on the same page you can trust me to say it.”Among a highly skeptical audience, Ted Cruz challenges everyone to ask hard questions in a no-holds-barred Q&A lasting two hours! Cruz was intent on them hearing exactly where he agreed and disagreed with them. Cruz is confident in what he believes and doesn't insult people's intelligence with pandering responses. In my mind, just because Cruz appears before groups of Liberty Movement voters and fearlessly engages them to hash out common ground does not justify members of the media taking the lazy route and fixing a simplistic label of "libertarian leaning" to him.
Secondly, this paragraph caught my eye:
Inevitably, the conversation turned to 2016 and the prospects of the dueling candidacies of Cruz and fellow “Whacko Bird” Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. Likening the Republican Primary to the NCAA basketball tournament, Cruz admitted that Rand was strong in the libertarian “bracket”, but made it clear that should he run, he would fight for the liberty vote as well. “I intend to vigorously contest (for support from the Liberty Movement), and I think it’s entirely consistent to fight for liberty… and to fight for conservative principles as well,” said Cruz. He also noted that he was the only candidate in the country in 2012 to be endorsed by both Ron Paul and Rick Santorum in his Texas Senate race. “Now, those are two worlds that are not normally arm-in-arm,” Cruz explained in an understatement that drew laughter from the room.My goodness, can you say consensus builder!? Uniting libertarians and pro-life evangelicals demonstrates Cruz's message of reclaiming the Constitution and Bill of Rights appeals to a broader cross section of voters than the liberal media wants us to believe. It puts the lie to Democrat claims his philosophy is extreme. Draw in the Reagan Democrats after more exposure to Cruz in the debates and on TV/radio/Internet and we're well on our way to victory.

There was a article here on FR about someone complaining that Ted Cruz’s campaign hasn’t yet made avalible campaign signs, campaign bumper stickers, campaign T-shirts so on and so on...
They just started to get Ted’s campaign up and running and it will take time to release all those campaign material.
In the meantime Ted Cruz supporters can take matters into their own hands and be creative by making their own signs, their own T-Shirts, their own bumper stickers.
Not only that, but perhaps your doctor can ralley some people to have bake sales, yard sales, car washes, fund raisers to raise funds to donate to Ted Cruz’s campaign..
That there is truly grass roots, THE CRUZ NATION ONE TEAM STANDING AS ONE VOICE ( bumper sticker, sign material )
Perhaps the good doctor can make her own TED CRUZ sign, a big sign and put it in the back of a pick up truck and drive around town... Like in the good old days...
I would walk through flaming broken glass to vote for Ted Cruz.
It’s pretty obvious to most of us that he has libertarian leanings. Just like Ronald Reagan and, say, Thomas Sowell have libertarian leanings. An appreciation for individual liberty is one of the main things that separates conservatives from liberals and other leftists.

My best friend and I do bake sales and yard sales to raise money for scolarship funds for children of fallen soldiers and police officers. She lost her son, a police officer, and I lost my son in Iraq. So far, our grandkids have earned full scolarships, but we wanted to do something for kids not so fortunate. We have been discussing the idea of doing the same to raise money for Cruz.
People donate items and baked goods. Last year we were able to raise almost $20,000.

Lost my mom last year to multible medical complications from heart attack and kidney disease..
She was once a police officer...
My son always told me “Mom, no matter what happens, just remember I’m doing something I believe in”. He was so proud to be a Marine and I am so proud to have been his Mom.
