Senate Foreign Relations Committee Approves Iran Bill
Arutz Sheva ^ | 15/4/15 | Elad Benari

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved, 19 to 0, legislation granting Congress a voice in negotiations on the Iran nuclear accord, The New York Times reported.

The legislation will now go to the full Senate, after President Barack Obama earlier withdrew his opposition rather than face a bipartisan rebuke.

Republican opponents of the nuclear agreement on the committee sided with Obama’s strongest Democratic supporters in demanding a congressional role as international negotiators work to turn this month’s nuclear framework into a final deal by June 30.

The bill would mandate that the administration send the text of a final accord, along with classified material, to Congress as soon as it is completed. It also halts any lifting of sanctions during a congressional review and culminates in a possible vote to allow or forbid the lifting of congressionally imposed sanctions in exchange for the dismantling of much of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Hours before the vote, a deal between Republican and Democratic senators was reached to support the bill.

"We have reached a bipartisan agreement that keeps the congressional review process absolutely intact, full of integrity," said Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), who is one of the key authors of the bill.

While Obama was not “particularly thrilled” with the bill, his spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday that the president decided the new proposal put together by the top Republican and Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was acceptable.

Nope. Obama is getting what he wants. This is probably the worst thing any US senate has ever done. Now a 2/3 majority is needed to oppose a president's treaty. Re: Mark Levin for details.

i don't think so.

This bill killed the 2/3 majority needed to ratified a treaty .
It killed the constitutional authority and will Iran to get out of the embargo !

It's a scam by Corker and Rand and Rubio and Mitchy

Dunno. Result was to pass it unanimously in committee, and thereby release it to the full Senate, though.

It states that he can’t unilaterally pull the plug on sanctions upon signing, which was what he intended to do, without Senate ratification or even review. If it’s a scam, Israeli right-wing media such as Yisrael Hayom and A7 are both sounding awful happy about it.

Without this new proposed law, Obama needs 2/3 of Senators present to get a treaty passed. With this law, he can merely veto any Senatorial objection and then the Senate would then need 2/3 vote to override his veto. This proposal looks like one of the worst sell- outs of the Constitution -— and quite frankly out safety or survival as a nation would be very much placed at risk by the Senate enabling Obama’s letting our sworn enemies have nuclear bombs and icbm-s. Please correct this if I’m wrong but this looks very very very dangerous Dear senators, please can’t you just do your job instead of defending the Enrmy Within ( our White House) all the time? What do we pay you for?

It's the absolute worst thing the senate could do. It's akin to Jar Jar Binks making a motion to give emergency power to the chancellor.

Without Mark Levin’s analysis, I thought this was a good thing for national security.

A7 is right wing. So is Yisrael Hayom and Times of Israel.

The bill specifically prevents Obama from lifting the embargo without express permission from Congress, which should go without saying, but in the present environment must be clarified. It forces him to turn over full disclosure to Senate, including classified documents.

Congress already had a say.

Now congress is trying to betray us all, and then after betraying us they will claim they did something for us...

Some people don't understand. I do not for-see another election nor do I see the powers-to-be in any sorts of danger for their jobs or lives. Think about all that has been done since they had power. Not a care in the world. Almost like, their voters won't take them to task for what they have and are doing.

The only thing now to keep an eye out for is the family members all going on vacation with heavy bags over a month or so apart.

They are not afraid of the voters.
