Ready For The Marriage Apocalypse? By Carol Costello, April 7, 2015 Carol Costello-Profile-Image
Carol Costello: Talk to any millennial and you can envision an America virtually marriage-free In countries like Sweden or Denmark, people don't feel pressured to marry even if they have kids together
(CNN)The marriage apocalypse may be coming. Talk to any millennial and you can envision an America virtually marriage-free, with everyone happily single.
I did. And I do.
Recently, I talked about marriage with a group of journalism students from my alma mater, Kent State University. They came to me for career advice, which I gave them, but I also picked their brains about politics, religion and marriage. Their views on marriage intrigued me the most. 'Cause, guess what? They don't care what your generation thinks -- they'll get married if and when they want.
"I didn't go to college for four years to be a mom," 21-year old Candace Monacelli told me. "There's no housewife degree. I've worked my butt off for four years to get this degree. You want to use it. You want to be successful. You want to have that happy part of your life as well."
Jackie Demate, also 21, agreed. "I would have a very hard time justifying spending $20,000 on a wedding when I could go to Europe."

My wife and I have four.....3 sons age 17, 15, and 12. We have a 7 year old daughter too......the reason for 4 kids is we wanted a daughter and had a dickens of a time getting her. We suffered through 3 miscarriages. Tough times but God had the plan and gave us a beautiful little girl on his timeframe.
I see some big families during Mass too and it is not a Hispanic Mass so things are turning for the better but again on God’s time table.
Most gays just want the party so why not just have a party and say we are having a party please join us for the afternoon of food and dance with a cake that says happy day. Why ruin marriage....just have a party! Heck even have the DJ and give out a gift to the guest to take with them. Heck if you REALLY want the gifts tell them to bring you a gift. Anything to keep marriage intact I am ok with.
Fast forward to 1988, when Don-o and I got married. It was in a Catholic church already lavishly decorated with poinsettias (it was on Dec 31), had a kind of pot-luck reception in the home of a friend, spent maybe $200 total.
What is the purpose of a wedding? Conspicuous consumption?
And we were, and are, conspicuously happy.
This is interesting. Where I am marriage among the young is almost a proof positive sign that one is upper middle class. And these families are having three to five children. Status symbols, not sure. But if they can afford them they are having them.
Has the fasting been dropped from our national day of prayer? How does God view our day of prayer when our legal system is an abomination?
As filthy rags, I would say. Never mind the current president trampling the meaning of such a day under foot.
Who spends $20k on a wedding??
Now that's progressive!
