I don't know what to make of this. I have now seen recommended vitamin d intakes all over the map.
Does anyone have any insight into this.

I have no insight, but this article inspired me to go pop a couple Vitamin D gummy vitamins. I also weight lift aggressively for bone health. And in the nice weather, I get a lot of sun, which is the best way to get D.
Also had a vitamin D test a week ago....so now I’ll definitely take care to see the results when they come in.

Bumped.
I take 5,000 IU of D-3 per day. A friend who is a Registered Dietician recommended this to me after I complained of hip pain after working out. All I know it that it worked! I take this on addition to my Omega 3 everyday.

There is an easy way to know you are getting enough Vitamin D- you will start having more frequent and pleasant dreams.
No, I am not joking

My doctor asked me last week what my vitamin D3 intake was. I told hin 5,000 units per day (that is what walmart sales numbers know to be viable) He said that was ok
I started at 2,000 units years ago following a study posted here and had to take 2
each 1,000 unit gelcaps per day..... that was what walmart sold. They then began offering 2,000 unit gelcaps because that is what was selling. Just last year they began selling the 5,000 unit gelcaps and I reduced my intake from 6,000 to only 5,000.
At this level all respiratory congestion and drainage and morning hacking up stuff is gone. At < 5,000 units the drainage is present. I have no colds...... in say 5 years
Any way, walmart and now Sam’s where you can buy a years supply of 5,00 iu gelcaps for very cheap they reflect customer purchasing habits. Doctors are divided, but Walmart knows

After my last blood work checkup my doctor recommended that I take vitamin d and the pain I had in my shoulder disappeared.
I also began taking a magnesium supplement and this elevated the muscle cramps in my right leg calve.
Apparently the magnesium helps the muscles to relax.

My vit D was down in the single digits and I was having all kinds of problems including substantial weight gain. Doc prescribed 50,000 IU / week. Did that for a couple of months and now I am taking 6,000 / day plus getting more sun.
I feel a whole lot better and was able to take off a good deal of weight.

Does anyone have any insight into this. Having worked for years in academic medicine (administrator, not medical professional) my attitude is to wait until something like this is accepted by Harvard/Johns Hopkins/Mayo Clinic/Columbia/Stanford.Until then I don't see any need for panic.

Wait. From 600IU to 7,000IU! That’s quite a miscalculation!
And here I was told that the 600IU daily rate was settled science.

Anyone know anything about vitamin K? Been hearing some talk on this lately and just wondered what is up with it.
Also, can I get opinions on just what supplements everyone is taking? Maybe what good it has done you?
I have pretty significant shoulder pain and can't seem to get passed it. Went to a shoulder specialist and was basically told that he didn't see a cause for it. I kind of felt like I was being told it was all in my head- got prescribed muscle relaxers but it doesn't go away with muscle relaxers - had an MRI and they see "slight to moderate" arthritis. Seems to me that is a reason for pain right there! I don't like taking more meds than I have to. I would like to solve this naturally if I can.

You need K2 along with D3 to get the calcium to the right places. Magnesium is also key to take with those two.

Personal use. I have been taking 10,000 units per day of D-3 for nine years. In that nine years I have not had any cold or flu or any other virus. My wife ditto as also three progeny. Wife is a public school teacher- Spec-Ed primary. She used to bring virii home from school 3 or 4 times a year, even with the flu shots. Now she abjures the shots and does not get any virus.
The AMA and others reported over and over that D does no good except a little in conjunction with calcium to strengthen bones a little but has NO effect on any virus. The studies they backed it up with all involved 400 or 800 units per dose and a synthetic and much truncated D. Such usage, indeed, accomplished nothing noticeable. One doesn't need the supplements in the summer if one is outside in the sunshine. You get more D in a couple of hours in the sun than you get in the supplements. In the winter you wear long sleeves and hats and the sun is at a lower much less effective angle. That's why colds and flu are a winter phenomenon.
WalMart sells D-3 in tiny 5000 unit gel caps. Cheap. Much cheaper than Nyquil and much more effective.
For flu you already have the formula is 900 units per pơund of body weight taken all at once. Do it on a second day if you still ail.
I have proselytized this stuff among the parishioners in my church and got several to begin with it while very sick with flu. No one needed the second dose. I started that way in the morning and was clear by evening 9 years ago.

I have been taking 5,000 for at least 5 years. I have had NO colds in that time frame. My kids take 2,000 and have had no colds, but they drink a lot of milk also.
