How does the Mormon community react when one Mormon tells lies about another Mormon and brags of the lie's success.
If he goes to prison, he will probably be excommunicated.
If he is admitting to being dishonest and he says that he is honest in his dealings in a TR interview, and if his bishop knows this, then his bishop has a lot to account for and is culpable.
His bishop is the guy you need to ask. He is the judge in these issues.
Well, good for you...but Lds gen authorities & bishops are even more sensitive now to what might be construed as applying political pressure or political posturing.
Hasn't happened...ain't gonna happen.
It's just like a lot of grassroots Mormons are who personally pro-life.
But any & all pro-life activity isn't going to be formally called for by any Lds leader. (It's seen as "political")
Hence, all we're left with when Lds leaders are evaluated is statements on abortion with reams of "exceptions" -- including the wide-open exception of "If God tells you" in prayer to dismember your child.
The only time a bishop is going to negatively speak publicly about a church member under his authority is like when said person...

Had Dehlin not FIRST publicized it, then the Lds church said they would not have had Dehlin's bishop publicly address a few comments made by Dehlin.
(Otherwise, ask all you want; a bishop isn't going to publicly -- negatively -- divulge anything)
True. But a person can at least express their concerns privately. It would be nice to be able to get through to the ward members. Or move someone in who will shake things up lol.

I am strongly prejudiced in favor of Mormons since childhood. The nicest, most upright, decent, kind people I have ever known. Crazy religion, though.

Supposedly true story told me by a H.S. friend who was a practicing Mormon: While he was Gov of Utah Territory, Brigham Young, who had dozens of wives and scores of children, was standing on the steps of the territorial govt capitol one day while entertaining some visiting bigwig from out-of-state (Senator, Governor?). A little boy walked past them and Brigham said to him something like, "You're a handsome little boy. Who's your father?" And the boy responded, "Brigham Young!"
Reverse the Curse of Cain --- Historically, blacks could join the church but were forbidden to hold even the most minor leadership positions or to participate in most (all?) important Temple rituals. But once the USA's civil rights era really got rolling, criticism didn't just come from outside the church; rather, complaints were growing in volume & frequency withIN the church, especially from young Mormon missionaries who had the misfortune to be posted to Africa and suffer firsthand the cold/hostile reactions of would-be converts or new converts discovering they were the "wrong" skin color. So in the late 70s, this longstanding thorn in their side was solved when good old Spence Kimball - LDS Prez - met w/ his fellow high priests and they experienced yet another one of those famous revelations ... this time that God was telling the LDS to reverse the various prohibitions against blacks.
Soon after, a joke I heard went something like this: "Did you know the Mormons are now bending over backwards to make Afro-Americans feel welcome in their church? Why, they're even changing the words to some hymns in order to make blacks feel more at home! For instance, [sung to the tune of Camptown Races] "A mighty fortress is our God, doodah, doodah...."

(Well, hey, if you're auditioning for literal godhood, then, of course you'll present yourself as "nice" and "upright" and "decent" and "kind"...As for "crazy," that's the "crazy" thing about these personal auditions: That people actually think they can bump the number of gods in the universe by one and effectively steal glory and worship and adoration from THE God)
But “Ain’t gonna happen” is no reason not to raise one’s hand.
I’ve never seen or heard of the reams of abortion exceptions. Being pro life is often discussed but being more socially active needs to happen, but it will have to happen at social or community level. And I’ve yet to meet anyone who would ever abort.
If people like yourself can engage more in partnering with lds people despite your gripes and dislikes and reach out to work on the common goals, imagine the power.
I think now is the time for people of faith to set aside differences and stay to band together to become a force to be reckoned with. Differences can be dealt with later.
One more thing... I think that being non political has to do with keeping the powder dry.

So, are you actually going to address this subtle, indirect question about Harry Reid? Or are you going to pretend that MosesKnows is referencing some Mormon phantom wandering around out there and isn't actually incarnated in a politician with the initials of H.R.?
That’s the least crazy thing about Mormonism.
Catholicism teaches that, at Baptism, we begin to share in the divine nature, by receiving the theological virtue of charity. The increase of charity is the primary effect of Holy Communion, and in the Eastern churches it is “divinization.”
Of course, Catholicism doesn’t teach all the crazy stuff about pre-existing souls, weird planets, Jesus in America.
Depends on the bishop. But granted, get people have the spine to do what needs to be done.

Hey, I have Lds relatives; we get along fine.
Before the Boy Scouts began to open its doors to pandering to the gay activist movement, I certainly commented on these threads that Christian scoutmasters could work together with Lds scoutmasters to the betterment of Boy Scouts...or, Mormons & Christians could work together at say, a food pantry down the street.
Yet, Suz, that doesn't mean we HAVE to ignore the worldwide slander paid for by grassroots Mormons -- especially wealthy Mormons. (Hey...we can be relationally civil as well as yield group-to-group and political accountability...we can multi-task and properly segment out these tensions)
...The Mormon church has made sure that over these past 60+ years its missionaries emphasize a so-called "UNIVERSAL" (complete) apostasy by the Christian church shortly after the apostles died.
Since 1952, the Lds church has sent out over a million missionaries...[Lds has boasted of over a million in its entire history; the largest swath have come in the last 60 years]. They work 70-hour weeks. That's a LOT of "apostasy" mongering...especially given the 80,000 Lds missionaries out & about daily.
And that doesn't include their 24/7 online accusations...
...their books published in who knows how many languages...
...their curricula...
...their published articles...
...their broadcasts...
Somebody who doesn't realize all of this strikes me as a little "green" when it comes to assessing what this multi-$billion organization has been doing...
Here we have open slander by the Mormon Church of worldwide Christianity and you reduce our evaluation of all of this to some mere low-level "gripe"?
