Step Down, Senator Robert Menendez[NYT]
The New York Times ^ | 02 April 2015 | The Editorial Board

Posted on 04/02/2015 12:27:24 PM PDT by Theoria

For high-profile politicians who are indicted by federal prosecutors, there’s something akin to stages of grief. First comes shock, then anger, defiance and, sometimes, after juries convict and judges are ready to impose a sentence, a bit of contrition.

Having been on notice for months that his mutually beneficial friendship with a wealthy Florida doctor was the subject of a corruption probe, Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey blew right past the state of shock on Wednesday, after authorities unveiled a 68-page indictment.

“For nearly three years I’ve lived under a Justice Department cloud and today I am outraged that this cloud has not been lifted,” an indignant Mr. Menendez told a crowd of supporters in Newark.

Outrage is fitting in this case — for anyone who reads the indictment. It meticulously documents a brazen pattern of gifts and favors exchanged by Mr. Menendez, one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington, and Dr. Salomon Melgen, a Dominican-born eye surgeon who invested heavily in Mr. Menendez’s political career and was never shy about calling in favors.

Mr. Menendez argues that all the back-scratching was not criminal, but rather what good friends are supposed to do for each other. He’s certainly entitled to make that case to a jury. Considering the breadth and nature of the allegations, though, it’s hard to imagine that he will have enough time to adequately represent his constituents while he braces for a legal fight that could drag on for years.

How quickly will FATSO call for a Special Election to ensure a Democrat replaces him instead of replacing him with a Republican and taking advantage of DEMOCRAT CORRUPTION?

Any word from the NYTimes about Hillary? Nope.

It is politically safe to go after Menendez because there is a high probability that another Democrat will be returned to that seat, either in the near term or the longer term. So, no skin off the NYTimes for saying this, and they now get to pose for bi-partisan holy pictures.

Had to wait to the fourth paragraph for msm to finally state he’s a democrat.

Of course NJ would have tipped you off, but if Republican, it’d be in title, first paragraph, and have a democrat quote about how all republicans are tarnished by the guy.

Yup. Not that I like ‘Rat senators, but apparently this one stood up to Obama on Iran. Funny timing all right.

Indeed it is. He has committed the unpardonable sin of publicly criticizing and opposing Obama on Cuba and Iran. He may be guilty, but so are a lot of his compatriots who are protected by the Regime. Can't prove selective prosecution, but it looks like it. There is a message here that this could happen to anyone else who strays from the plantation.

If he does step down, the Dems will demand that a Democrat be named to replace him. Christie and the Republicans, of course, will go along with it, otherwise, the Democrats might say mean things about them.

What the New York Times is calling for is well written and very reasonable. There is only one problem. The New York Times selectively applies these standards to enemies of OBAMA.

Hey New York Times, how about the same article for:
Harry Reid
Nancy Pelosi
BJ Clinton
Hillary Clinton, what is a little graft corruption,
dereliction of duty, lying under oath
memory lapses that are worthy of an
Alzheimer's patient, that only seem to
strike under oath, passing state secrets
etc. etc. etc. also bribery remember the
cattle trades.
and the list of her other crimes is
long.

And last but supreme is Obama’s undermining of the constitution, repeatedly lying to the American Public, usurping the power of a spineless gutless Republican Legislative Branch, refusing to enforce the laws which is a sworn oath, using the IRS and the Justice Department as a “legal Gestapo” against conservatives. His list of crimes is even longer than Hillary's.

When the New York Times applies the same standards to all they will then again become the “Paper of Record.” Today they are nothing but the political arm of the far left of the Demoncrat party. Even Pravda would be ashamed.

He could stay, and start talking about Reid’s part in all this... and ‘certain people’ in the executive branch.

E. Pluribus Unum:" Please stay, Robert.

The timeing of this prosecution/persacution is quite interesiting
as Menendez speaks out against administration totalarization in respect to liberalizing relationships to Cuba and Iran.
The Dept. of "JUST-US" is a Judicial arm of the Executive Branch , and seeks to take action immediately before the _reisident's only possible foreign policy , 'claimed success'.
The "JUST-US" Dept. selects which laws it will enforce , and will ignore other laws (selective enforcement), also known legally as "Arbitrary and Capricoious",
we are already aware of threats of retaliation from the _resident's senior advisor
This is one of those retaliatory actions by the Executive branch .
