Commentary: ‘Irksome’ Ted Cruz is a stickler for process, a lightning rod for controversy
The Portland Press Herald ^ | March 29, 2015 | Marc Fisher, The Washington Post

The Texas Republican's devotion to principle – or an unyielding insistence on getting his way – could propel him to the front ranks of Republican contenders for president or render him unelectable.

Ted Cruz looked out over a sprawling audience of Iowa farmers and agri-business leaders, people who rely on federal subsidies of ethanol, and the man who would be president stuck it to them.

“I know you’d like me to say I’m for the renewable fuel standard” – that’s the subsidy of their product – “that’d be the easy thing to do,” he said. “But I’m going to tell you the truth.” He’d take away their subsidy, he said with a big smile.

The farmers sat on their hands.

A week earlier, in a vast ballroom at Maryland’s National Harbor, where blood-red conservatives gathered to evaluate a showcase of Republican presidential wannabes, Cruz was again the steely man of principle. He railed against Washington, slammed his opponents (“Hillary Clinton embodies the corruption of Washington”) and asked the true believers to demand of their candidates, “When have (you) been willing to stand up against Republicans?” The son of a Cuban man who saw what happens when freedom is stripped away swore that “I’ll die before I let it happen again.”

This time, the crowd stood as one, roaring with admiration and hope....

As much as I enjoyed the new stuff, I had to notice that the author had to time-after-time quote his classmates as saying Ted was a know-it-all, smug, arrogant. That, I didn’t like. These are the buzz words that will be heard from now on about him. Hmmm, maybe we should make up a list similar to the idiot followers of Hillary Clinton - a list that bans what words CAN’T be used about Ted.

there are no mere coincidences...simply varying degrees of import.

“God has healed”. Raphael...

this could s well be an election of truly biblical proportions

Looks like this campaign will boil down to logic/facts vs emotion/falsehoods (a welcome change). Some people mistake ‘confidence in principles’ for ‘arrogance based on emotion’. It is refreshing to me to have a candidate who consistently views issues in black and white rather than 10K shades of gray. I believe a person with Cruz’s qualities are the only hope we have of reclaiming our America and her Exceptionalism. USA must return to Faith, Liberty, Family, and uncompromising Founding Principles.

Ted Cruz was genuinely amused by that famous poster produced by Sabo, a local street artist in Los Angeles. You'll get a laugh from Ted's description of the artwork that he included in his speech on 3/27/2015 at the Young America's Foundation Freedom Conference in NH. Cruz has a great sense of humor. Use this video link queued to the appropriate time:

Conservatives need to break the mold of what so-called liberals think of us.

We do not accept “Group think”

We do not accept being culled into any group.

We respect and promote the sanctity of the individual.

We reject being “Told what to think”

We can think for ourselves.

Of course he’s controversial. That “defending the constitution thingy” really sticks in the leftie’s craw...

The Portland Press Herald has been conservative since 2010. Anyone can cherry pick their media.

No, you idiot - he is half-Hispanic. Hispanic isn’t a skin color. I was using the term tongue-in-cheek.

From the MUST-READ article:

He slammed the university's president for running Princeton "by personal edict". Cruz said Princeton's president Harold Shapiro had "blatantly violated the spirit of the honorary degree process " when he bypassed the faculty- student council and granted an honorary degree to then-President George H. W. Bush. Similarly, Cruz blasted Shapiro for banning beer kegs from campus events- again without consulting the council.

The point in both cases was the principal and the process

He's interested in whether the exercise of authority was legitimate

Considering that the current administration and the democrat party have been operating in a state of near complete lawlessness- Ted Cruz is EXACTLY who we need to deal with all the damage that has been done.

Adding to the stellar qualities mentioned in the article- is the fact that where the Sabo poster of Cruz (posted in earlier comments here) , shows him tatted up and represents his inner self when it comes to fighting for principle-He really does have our Constitution tattooed to his brain. That is what we need in our next president, if we want to remain free.

President Cruz '16
