Walker Denies Remarks Indicating Change in Immigration Stance

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, a possible candidate for president in 2016, told a private gathering of New Hampshire Republicans this month that he supported a pathway to legal status — but not citizenship — for undocumented immigrants in the United States, according to the chairwoman of the state’s Republican Party.

The chairwoman, Jennifer Horn, described Mr. Walker’s statements on Thursday after The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post reported that Mr. Walker had endorsed eventual citizenship for those immigrants, which many Republicans oppose.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Walker, Kirsten Kukowski, disputed those reports about Mr. Walker embracing a pathway to citizenship.

“Governor Walker has been very clear that he does not support amnesty and believes that border security must be established and the rule of law must be followed,” she said in a statement. “He does not support citizenship for illegal immigrants.”

Breitbart: Scott Walker Camp Disputes WSJ Story; Insists Gov. ‘Does Not Support Amnesty’ "The Wall Street Journal reports that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker had shifted his stance on amnesty during a talk in New Hampshire earlier this month.

“Walker’s remarks, which were confirmed by three people present and haven’t been reported previously, vary from the call he has made in recent weeks for ‘no amnesty’—a phrase widely employed by people who believe immigrants who broke the law by entering the country without permission shouldn’t be awarded legal status or citizenship,” the Journal wrote.

Gov. Walker’s spokesperson Kirsten Kukowski says that report is wrong:........."

Scott walker has defeated democrats many times to pass conservative laws. Scott walker as governor defeated the democrats and the media to cut taxes, balance the budget , right to work laws etc. His record as governor is unmatched in history. Not even Reagan defeated democrats this many times

Walker/Cruz

Stories planted by Walker’s opposition to discredit him are to be expected when you’re top tier.

Whatever.

A pathway for illegals to gain citizenship IS amnesty.

You make sure that they cannot cross the border anymore in waves or single or in couples or way else other than legally, you begin a policy of deportations on a case by case basis of those that are here and have been allowed to come here by crooked politicians in both parties, and you inform the ones that are here that they have no right to work here, are not qualified for benefits, and cannot vote legally, and will eventually be deported, and they will go home.

The pathway to citizenship is to apply for it legally from inside your own country, and that’s it.

AP:

WASHINGTON – A dispute over Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's position on immigration erupted on Thursday, highlighting the Republican's struggle to appeal to conservatives on the explosive issue as he prepares to launch a Republican presidential bid.

The two-term governor has consistently opposed what he calls "amnesty" for immigrants in the country illegally, but his definition of amnesty has evolved. In a recent closed-door meeting with top New Hampshire Republicans, Walker said such immigrants should be allowed to stay in the country legally. That's according to New Hampshire GOP chair Jennifer Horn, who organized the meeting and challenged a Thursday report in The Wall Street Journal that Walker said he supported giving such immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

"I specifically asked a follow-up question on the immigration reform issue, where he very clearly identified he was advocating a path for legal status but not citizenship," Horn said in an interview with The Associated Press." "Jeb Bush, Walker’s chief rival at this point, and Sen. Marco Rubio, another likely challenger, have advocated for immigration reform that includes an eventual pathway to citizenship. But more conservative contenders such as Ted Cruz oppose such a path and call border security the nation’s top priority in this regard.

Walker’s campaign claimed the Journal report was “erroneous,” and urged reporters to contact Horn and Franklin, N.H., Mayor Ken Merrifield for their accounts of the governor’s remarks. A call placed to Merrifield was not returned.

“Governor Walker has been very clear that he does not support amnesty and believes that border security must be established and the rule of law must be followed,” said Kirsten Kukowski, communications director for Walker’s PAC, Our American Revival. “His position has not changed, he does not support citizenship for illegal immigrants, and this story line is false.” --- Real Clear Politics

The absolute worst "solution" is to provide legal status but not a path to citizenship. If we followed that path we would be in the same situation as Europe: lots of marginalized people living in segregated communities slowly out-populating the citizenry while stewing in frustration and anger.

Every illegal out. To the back of the bus. Spend more money to expedite the immigration of those who are following the legal process. And please go back to a system based on merit rather than familial relationships.

Also a complete end to H-1B and a major FBI/Treasury/IRS investigation/audit of Infosys.

Walker is roaming off to the left.

Big mistake.

Illegal aliens are illegal aliens. Deport them.Secure the border.

Deporting a million or so will work just as in Eisenhower’s time , and the rest will self deport.

Walker is wrong.

The New York Times is not communist. Just ask Noam Chomsky.

The New York Times is closer to being Fascist. They are a left-leaning supporter of "enlightened" corporations, i.e. crony capitalists.

They oppose hard leftists because hard leftists don't spend lots of money on the latest/greatest foods and fashion. They want to lure people who look at their ads and spend money, i.e. gays who want to throw absolutely fabulous weddings.

They are more chichi than che che.

The media has its agenda but if two or more people present say Walker said “pathway to citizenship” then journalistic practice is to publish it as a news story regardless of the reporter’s political bias.

All Walker has to say is “enforce the existing laws on the books....that define the process of changing status and implement the border fence....all described in detail in the 1985 law passed by Congress.
