Walker Denies Remarks Indicating Change in Immigration Stance
New York Times ^ | March 26, 2015 | Jason Horowitz and Patrick Healy

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, a possible candidate for president in 2016, told a private gathering of New Hampshire Republicans this month that he supported a pathway to legal status — but not citizenship — for undocumented immigrants in the United States, according to the chairwoman of the state’s Republican Party.

The chairwoman, Jennifer Horn, described Mr. Walker’s statements on Thursday after The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post reported that Mr. Walker had endorsed eventual citizenship for those immigrants, which many Republicans oppose.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Walker, Kirsten Kukowski, disputed those reports about Mr. Walker embracing a pathway to citizenship.

“Governor Walker has been very clear that he does not support amnesty and believes that border security must be established and the rule of law must be followed,” she said in a statement. “He does not support citizenship for illegal immigrants.”

Did she make any comments as to whether or not illegals can stay in the US? If not she and her boss by association are just pandering to the winds.

The NY times picks this to make it news precisely because they want to destroy Scott Walker. that's who the communists/marxists (NY times et al) fear. they are showing us who they fear by making this news. just like the news media cherry pick a mass shooting to enact gun control even though it's a statistically insignificant act. all Obama’s crimes regulating the Internet, benghazi, executive amnesty, IRS scandal not news but anything that could hurt walker or gun rights is news cause they make it the news to further their goal of communism

Walker needs to find out who the “3 people” are.

I have not said one thing bad about Walker. So far Walker is my favorite candidate, even more so than Cruz.

I just said that the only thing worse than outright amnesty would be a path to legal status with no hope of citizenship.

It's not a good idea to have people in legal limbo for decades as they do in most countries in Europe ... or should I say Eurabia.

I also don't think its helpful to label everyone left of the typical Freeper a communist. There are levels of political stupidity just as there are levels of insanity.

Communists are to psychopaths as New York Times editors/writers are to schizophrenics.

They don't want us to march to some utopian/dystopian future. They just spend too much time listening to the various voices in their heads that get them heading in all the wrong directions.

"When it comes to immigration reform, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has made it abundantly clear what he opposes: giving citizenship to people who broke the law to come here.

What has not been as evident is what he supports: legal status for millions of people here already, while making it easier for immigrants to come here through the front door.

“I have said many times that I want to see common-sense immigration reform pass,” he said. “I think most Americans want to see the problem fixed.”

... Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation." -- Texas Tribune

My local congressman had John Boehner in for a fundraiser some years back and made comment about all kinds of people being in the Republican caucus, then blamed the media for the way they printed the story where he came out looking like he had no problem with liberals in the GOP.

Having Boehner fundraise for him was proof enough that my congressman wasn’t conservative, even though he goes around making emotional speeches criticizing Obama.

Thanks for the info. Honestly, the only national Republican to take a strong stand against illegal immigration has been Senator Jeff Sessions. I honestly doubt that any of the presumptive GOP presidential candidates, if elected president, will mass deport the illegals already here.

I knew all of that from AuntB.

I have taken no position on Cruz' immigration pronouncements. I have said that I prefer Pence. I am merely stating facts exposing Walker's true position for the record, because these facts are being systematically ignored by his supporters (this means you). If you don't like it, that's tough.

Cruz or Walker both are far better than Obama. I’d take either one over Obama

in fact I’d take Charles Manson right now over Obama

Cruz and Walker are both great men.

Keep at it CW. Citing equivalence between Cruz and Walker on an unacceptable position as reason to support Walker doesn’t do you any good.

I was at the German Foreign Office yesterday to get stamped up for another few years. She saw I am married with a child and tried to push permanent resident on me. I want to retire to South Carolina, when my daughter wins a scholarship there. Discovered an excellent Chinese restaurant one block from there that serves piping hot food. Even the diet coke was delicious - LoL! Very cute Chinese girl too.

Perhaps Governor Walker and any other candidates should not make private statements to groups of supporters. Romney did the foot-in-mouth thing with his 47% comment, and he never recovered.

Another thing that would help would be honest, informed policies. Then they wouldn't say stupid stuff like this.

I'm not sure I trust a candidate who speaks to groups of supporters in private. Denials from Walker aren't enough. He should release a video of the speech.
