A modest proposal - how about we ban all civilian gun ownership?: Jamar Thrasher

When I was 15 I was almost murdered. That's what I was told by another teenager who rode his rusty BMX bike to the McDonald's in my Pittsburgh neighborhood to confront me. "I'm going to kill your black a**!" he screamed, wobbling his bike between his legs. I chuckled, as I often do when another black person calls me black, because, well, they're black as well.

This really strikes a chord with me.

I’m writing a novel and there’s a small piece in it that describes the history leading up to the point in time the novel takes place at.

A piece of legislation called the “Universal Civilian Disarmament act” was passed. It was an attempt to halt violence, particularly gun violence. The ramifications in my story though had the police given the power to be the immediate Judge, jury and executioner of ‘anyone’ the found with a weapon in their possession. And I do mean executioner, the offender was immediately executed on the spot.

At first it was guns and knives and then it came down to blunt objects, bats, hammers or what have you. Once the populace was completely disarmed and cowed. They, (the politicians and elites), ordered ALL of the populace into the cities first and then into huge towers called residentials.

If you resisted moving by the official move-by date the power was cut off to your section of the country and the ‘elimination’ battalions were sent in. No prisoners, no survivors left behind.

And all because ‘Someone’ somewhere got their panties in a twist because someone said cruel words and they felt scared. And everyone else had to pay for their fears.

Banning guns for law-abiding Americans is an interesting idea. Then criminals would know their victims were unarmed unless one criminal was unlucky enough to pick on another criminal. Criminals would be far more bold under that proposal, except for the detail that it would (I hope) trigger a civil war to restore the Constitution and our God-given freedoms. The thugs have already trampled many fundamental human rights, and decent people are being patient in the hope that tyranny can be reversed before it progresses further, but the Second Amendment is a line that America’s enemies cannot be permitted to cross.

Of course making the lives of the people safer is not their goal. Their goal is making the lives of those who would ban guns and impose their tyranny on us safer.

Thanks... Made me think there for a second. The novel takes place in 2080’s and 2090’s. Still writing and researching too.

How about we just ban this guy to North Korea—where he’ll be safe.

The goal may is more primal than that... to take away guns from those who would use them to protect themselves from tyranny...

Sure Jamar, why don’t you come for mine. Do it at night. Night works best for me and don’t worry about the dogs; they’re afraid of me.

From the article, “And I’d take it a step further by concluding that each gun taken off the street is one less death.”

With his math skills, Jamar might have a bright future in the global warming computer modeling community. Since American citizens own approximately 300 million guns... and their are approximately 300 million legal citizens in the country... we will all be gone soon if we Jamal’s modest proposal isn’t adopted. If all the people who want to come to the country illegally could just hold their horses... there won’t be anyone left to stop them. But there also won’t be anyone left to pay for their food stamps, free medical, and welfare so what would be the point?

This is one of the most laughably ignernt (as we say in the South) arguments I have ever heard. This guy admits that the kid who threatened him either got his gun by stealing it or buying it on the black market. I’m just chuckling on this one. :-)

I can sympathize with the nasty experience he had. However, people who think civilian gun ownership should be banned ought to be continuously reminded of the fact that it would take American and Canadian criminals many, many centuries to equal the number of civilians murdered in Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, Communist China, and Khmer Rouge Cambodia in less than one. The common thing amongst these four governments: bans on civilian gun ownership.

Self-defense is a fundamental civil right, perhaps the most fundamental. When the author states that "nobody needs a gun" he is substituting wishful thinking for hard truth. You might just as well say "Nobody needs a vote." It's equally true, and equally true that in its absence the society that results isn't improved.

It isn't all that difficult to "imagine" a society without firearms, all you have to do is read history. The phrase "the city's men were all put to the sword and the women and children sold into slavery" seems to pop up with dismaying regularity. There was, contrary to the author, quite a bit of murder going on, so much that nobody even bothered to record it.
