Two years after she underwent a double mastectomy to cut her cancer risk, actress and U.N. envoy Angelina Jolie has had surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes for the same reason, she wrote in The New York Times on Tuesday.
Jolie, 39, carries a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Her mother was diagnosed with the latter at age 49 and died seven years later.
In her New York Times op-ed Tuesday, Jolie said she had been planning the latest preventive surgery for some time.

She's fortunate that she can afford to pay for what is undoubtedly and expensive medical procedure. It just strikes me as an odd thing to do and I wondered what people think of it.
Next she’ll remove her legs to prevent her from tripping and falling.
I respect her for it. she is educating herself, getting as much info as she can and then making an informed decision. her objective is to remain alive for her children as long as she possibly can. I think that’s laudable, given she has the resources to pay for the procedures.
Hope she keeps out of the sun. Or at least uses chapstick.
Of course, she’s already had her brain removed to assure she won’t suffer from a brain tumor. :)
Suicide has been proven to cut cancer risk 100%.
Nobody ever got cancer post suicide.

CNN is using this to skip having to cover Hillary’s email/foreign donations scandal. CNN is soo predictable.
Good for her. If diabetes ran in my family, I would take extra precautions to avoid getting diabetes myself later on.
She is wise to eliminate the risks that could kill her.
Full skin removal will cut the risk of skin cancer from sun exposure.
Did she keep her uterus? If so why?
The surgeries are prudent in her case. She has a very high risk of having cancer in her lifetime.
The poor thing.
And now I'm reminded about the double mastectomy that I tried to forget.
Removing the brain will remove the chance of brain cancer.
I suspect Bruce Jenner will be watching for yard sales at Angelina’s house, fake breasts aren’t hard to get but a set of gently used ovaries could be a tough find.

I was watching Fox news this morning and the Dr was going on and on about how great AJ was to be proactive and do this. He was also pushing that EVERYONE get baselines and expensive testing. Does he realize that average people can’t afford to get 2nd and 3rd opinions and genetic testing and elective surgery? My expensive insurance only pays for 2 Dr visits a year with $35 copay and then everything is out of pocket until I reach my $10,000 deductible. I had to turn him off.
She has genetic markers and a family history that predisposes her to certain types of cancer. In the case of breast cancer, she had an 87% chance of developing that type of cancer per Dr. Samadi on Fox. In the case of ovarian cancer her chance was 51%. With that information, her decisions seem reasonable.
It seems a bit paranoid to me.
