While taking a good deal of criticism for his seeming lack of knowledge on foreign policy this week, Republican Ben Carson told Bloomberg Politics that he is in process of taking in a great deal of information in that regard.
In a statement to Bloomberg Politics, Carson acknowledged that he was constantly boning up on foreign policy. Although I have visited the Baltic Rim and over 57 other countries around the world, he said, I am still in the stage of rapidly learning about the political dynamics of global politics.
-snip-
He also took the time to offer up something of a unique alternative to the one- or two-state solution when it comes to Palestine. Whats unclear is how realistic the proposal might be in the eyes of Palestinians, along with some governments content to use the issue as it stands against Israel. Some might argue that a solution that leaves Israel intact isnt exactly what they are after.
We need to look at fresh ideas, said Carson. I dont have any problem with the Palestinians having a state, but does it need to be within the confines of Israeli territory? Is that necessary, or can you sort of slip that area down into Egypt? Right below Israel, they have some amount of territory, and it can be adjacent. They can benefit from the many agricultural advances that were made by Israel, because if you fly over that area, you can easily see the demarcation between Egypt and Israel, in terms of one being desert and one being verdant. Technology could transform that area. So why does it need to be in an area where theres going to be temptation for Hamas to continue firing missiles at relatively close range to Israel?

Egypt doesn’t want them, Jordan doesn’t want them and certainly Lebanon doesn’t want them.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already laid out the plan for their own state right where they are ... from his Bar-Ilan speech of 2009, when Obama first got into office.
In case some readers here think this is old and outdated ... Netanyahu has been referring to his Bar-Ilan policy speech in recent days, after the election, saying he has NOT CHANGED from that policy since then, regardless of how some in the media are saying he has!

Saddam promised the Palis Kuwait, many went, but it didn’t work out in the long run
No one wants them, so there is nowhere to disperse them to. They are universally despised in the Arab world, good only for a foil against Israel. The only country which makes use of the is Iran were they are the most brutal of thug regime enforcers, and as soldiers in Hezbollah on the Syrian and Golan fronts.
Perhaps, they all should be herded into Iraq, as it is a made up country to begin with - let them fight it out with the Sunni tribes.
Exactly. Perfect visual aid. You may also want to include in a different color all of the Muslim territory and Muslim population.
I’m for giving the Palestinians the West Bank—of the Styx.
And he put the kibosh on that last Monday: Link
And he denied that subsequently ... after the election ... :-) ... On many news shows.
Too many people even here at FR seem to think giving them a state even away from Israel will solve something.
It won’t.
If you push them into Egypt and Jordan you’ll only succeed in making Egypt and Jordan active enemies with better rockets than the Paleostinians have now.
The Paleostinians need to be scattered to the winds and absorbed by other populations.
“The palestinians need to be dispersed.”
It depends...if you mean each of them needs to be “dispersed”, that’s probably something the region would agree on. If you means that the group has to be broken up and set to different countries, forget it. Every time they enter a country they set off a civil war. No one wants them...that’s why they’re trying to give them Israel, so that they can be caged away for good.
Arafat was born in Egypt
The Egyptian border with Gaza is just as heavily fortified as the Israeli border with Gaza & that should tell everybody something.
Mainly that the Palis are a pack of caged inbred monsters who live only to kill.
That’s the fault of the Arab nations, BTW.
If nothing else, his idea is instructive in that it will reveal that all of the muslim countries are all for a palestinian state...unless, of course, it’s in their back yard.
This is just one reference of the many references for Netanyahu saying he has NEVER ABANDONED the TWO-STATE SOLUTION as he announced in his Bar-Ilan speech, and he says that multiple times at many news shows after the election!
Netanyahu confirms he never abandoned two-state vision
http://aijac.org.au/news/article/netanyahu-confirms-he-never-abandoned-two-state-
Given the abundant evidence taken from Netanyahu’s statements both before and after the controversy erupted, it’s time for reporters to stop misrepresenting Netanyahu as having said he is against peace with the Palestinians, and specifically against a two-state peace agreement. It’s simply not true.
Ben Carson please stay in Neurosurgery. me thinks that you growing up in Detroit, has caused your earlier education to be lacking in geography, political science (middle school) and basically some common sense. Think before you speak. The borders of Israel have broadened since 1967, so what do you want Israel to go back o the 1967 borders. have you forgotten the 7 day war that Israel fought against others. How about the skirmishes with Syria, Lebanon and so on and do forth. Neirosurgery is not rocket science but staying at a Holiday Inn express does not make one an expert in Middle east - Israeli relations. Ever here of the Gaza strip, Ben Carson? Duh, where do they find these idiots that have as much intelligence as a refrigerator light bulb - 40w only works when the door is open.
Here is a solution. Give the Palis Sinai. Then as a world body, the UN should turn it into a green country. Only sun, water and wind power. No pollutants, totall disarmed except for the police and basically every leftist idea piled into one grand experiment, down a no sodium diet.
Then move the UN there.
Here is the thing. If you gave Israel to tha Palis and moved every Israeli to Sinai, within 10 years Sinai would be a booming metropolis, Israel would be a $hi+hole and the Palis would once again complain.
Dr. Ben Carson's plans are no better or worse than most other peoples opinions that I've seen discussed for the last 33 years since I graduated from college.
The following references are from Wikepedia, so take them for what they're worth but the main historical events are covered in these references and they point to many others that are a good starting point for a history of what has transpired in the middles east since about 1896.
You can go back further than that if you like but the main events in dispute today have their origins in Pre WW I Germany under the Kaiser and in the Ottoman Empire and the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand which kicked of WW I. Prior to the 1920's their was no Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq etc. except to the extent that they were territories of the Ottoman (ie Turkish ) empire that was defeated in WW I after Centuries of Ottoman rule through out most of the middle east. There was a mix of both uraban and rural( ie Nomadic ) people involved and a large migration of Jews from around the world to "Palestine/Israel" depending upon who you're arguing with!
The confluence of all these events created todays powder keg! A great film about this is of course "Lawrence of Arabia" starring Peter O'toole.
The arguments in the middle east pretty much stem from agreements and disagreements about the accuracy of the following ( and many others ) references!
Sykes-Picot Agreement
Chruchill White Paper
The Balfour Declaration
The British Mandate
I studied the following text in College along with several other books for a year and a half.
The Middle East in World Affairs
As usual, "The Devil is in the Details" and we live by 30 second sound bites!
There will be a short quiz on Monday! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Find a new hobby Ben, you aren’t suited for this one.
Most people when they retire take up golf or go fishing. Why Carson and Fiorina think that the country is crying out for them to lead us is beyond me.
