People dropped off dozens of unwanted guns at a buyback event Saturday in San Francisco's Western Addition neighborhood, no questions asked.
Organizers said it was more important to get guns off the street, as part of the citys ongoing effort to curb violent crime.
The police, they can't do it alone. so we have to step up as a community and work with the police department to make sure we're doing to do everything we can to get guns off the street," San Francisco Board of Supervisors President London Breed said.
Most people turning in guns received $100 cash. Assault rifles were bought back for $200 each.
Nearly 100 weapons were turned in, including a crossbow by a father concerned about his son's behavior.
If it was “no questions asked” then they didn’t get the names of the people turning in the guns? I’ll be they had some way of finding out who turned them in (checks?)....
According to the CDC, 13,834 people with an AIDS diagnosis died in 2011.
What they bought weren't the most dangerous type of weapons discharged in San Francisco.
Even if gun buybacks weren't "one of the most ineffectual public policies ever invented in the history of mankind", that result is pathetic. Less than 100? A crossbow?
At least they didn't buy back spent rocket launcher tubes for $200 like they did in LA!
Maybe next time they will ask them to turn in drug dealers or gang bangers, you know, the criminals USING the guns.
It’s a great way to get rid of gun used in a crime. No questions asked and you make some Green..
One of our local grocery stores has sponsored “buy Backs” by donating gift cards and with one of the executives saying nasty things about gun owners.
They lost our weekly business.
But, When they have one on my area, I’ll be glad to give them a broken .380 for $100.
Seven of the guns were partially eaten Pop Tarts and 4 others were made with rulers and clothespins....
It is pretty pathetic. Less than a hundred “weapons”. These gun turn in events are political theater that sends one message, loud and clear: Guns are bad and should be turned in to the police.
If you asked a lib that question they would say that everyone who turned in a gun was a felon - in their mind owning a gun is a felony.
I guess the buy back weapons would be a good source to use as “plant” weapons to frame individuals that the city of San Francisco didn’t like.
Ohh darn!
My brother-in-law was hoping to get rid of several shotguns “destroyed” in a garage fire. They really are worthless junk. Unfortunately we missed the buy. Would have been nice to collect $100 per...
