The Hastert Rule is dead; Nancy Pelosi runs the House
Red State ^ | March 17th, 2015 | streiff

see, two landslide elections did accomplish something.

...

the “doc fix” is simply and end run around the deficit accounting process. What is more unsettling is the way this piece of legislation came about. It seems to signal that the era of the “Hastert Rule,” where the Speaker will not entertain legislation without the consent of the majority of his caucus, is dead.

...

The fact that the Speaker went to the Democrats first to get votes on this spending deal shows the extent to which Boehner has been mortally injured as a leader. It also tells us that the House may very well have become less conservative than the Senate.

I looked it up, please let me know how you like it. It looks like a good read. I love non-fiction. Used to read a lot. Haven’t for a few years.

I watched on HBO a few weeks ago...Night Will Fall.

Well there’s going to be one hell of a resistance movement. May be the last one but if they win, they’re going to be heavily damaged.

“Why can’t the House Republicans vote this rat bastard out?”

Here’s why, Megan. Because they don’t want to:

January 15, 2015

Dear Mr. (Insert Disgruntled Conservative’s Name Here):

Thank you for contacting me about House Speaker John Boehner. I appreciate hearing from you.

I’d like to share with you the views of one of the leaders of the conservative movement who led the opposition against Speaker Boehner in 2013, but voted for him in 2015. Offering an explanation of why he changed his vote, my colleague Representative Mick Mulvaney from South Carolina said,

This coup today was bound to fail. And in fact, it failed worse than I expected, falling 11 votes shorts of deposing the Speaker. At least two years ago we only failed by six.... The hard truth is that we had an election for Speaker in November – just among Republicans. That was the time to fight. But not a single person ran against [Speaker] Boehner. Not one. If they had, we could’ve had a secret ballot to find out what the true level of opposition to John Boehner was.
(Representative Mulvaney’s full comments are attached for your review) *They were not attached.*

Despite last minute notice in the hours leading up to a vote, the truth is no potential candidate spent the time to make their case as a meaningful alternative. The choice touted by most conservatives outside of Congress was Representative Trey Gowdy, but he chose not to run. In fact, Representative Gowdy gave the nomination speech for Speaker Boehner in the Republican Conference meeting in November.

In addition to Mr. Gowdy, some of the “most tried and tested conservative voices in Washington” joined me in re-electing Speaker Boehner, including Representatives Jim Jordan, Raul Labrador, Mark Sanford, Trent Franks, Tom McClintock, Matt Salmon, Tom Price, Sam Johnson, and Jeb Hensarling. I remain committed to advancing a conservative agenda that controls government spending, preserves Constitutional liberties, jump-starts our economy, and holds President Obama accountable for his actions.

People are rightfully frustrated with Congress, but this New Year brings a new opportunity to produce results for the American people. My hope is we can unite as a party, get to work, and deliver results. Please don’t hesitate to contact me in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Luke Messer
Member of Congress

I learned from a fellow freeper that this letter (above) was a form letter, and actually provided by Speaker Boehner’s office to his ... minions.
John Boehner (D-OH) appointed Rep. Messer to the job of chairman of the House policy committee not too long ago.

The one completely truthful part of this form letter: “People are rightfully frustrated with Congress, ... “.
I asked by e-mail for the results of Rep. Messer’s e-poll of his constituents on opposing Obama’s attempts to use executive orders, on the DHS vote and “immigration”.

Rep. Messer first voted for funding, the vote that was blocked by 35 Republicans. The second vote, Boehner managed to find enough GOP votes to do the Democrats a “solid”.

I never received the results of the e-poll, but I suspect my critter got an `ear-full’ from his district and the second time voted against, probably aware that Boehner had managed to bully enough Republicans’ (as he so delicately put it a while back) “a**es back in line” to get it passed.

So there it is. The people we put in power and in the majority are entirely happy with Speaker John Boehner: note in the letter the brazen admission that no one challenged him, twice. We conservatives, the red-headed step kids of the GOP, are not at all happy with this weeping liberal.
This form letter was an attempt to patronize, humor or gruntle us.

This is the establishment GOP, from “conservatives” like Luke Messer to Trey Gowdy—and in living color.

In the last 6 years Obama has borrowed about 10 trillion dollars.

This money has gone to enrich Obama supporters who recycle the money into buying political access.

These rich progressives completely own the Democrat party and are in the process of buying the Republican party as well.

Ironically, they are doing so with our tax money

You vote Republican, you get two landslides ('10 & '14 up and down the ticket), and 0bama, Pelosi and Reid get everything they want and run the place.

I live in bizzarro world.

The GOP exists today to block conservatives, not represent them.

The sooner, the better, GOP-RIP
