Cut off their monthly checks. If they’re still alive, they’ll call.

“It is incredible that the Social Security Administration in 2015 does not have the technical sophistication to ensure that people they know to be deceased are actually noted as dead,” said Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee”
Our government doesn’t want to stop this. It allows illegals to stay in the country

And how many of those 6.5 million receive a monthly SS payment?

And how many active SS numbers for folks, say, 95-112 years old?

Our gov’t at work.

They have to report once a year to the local SS office; and bring their parents.

Has anyone here ever had an issue with identity theft??

Did you know that the Federal Government can fix ALL IDENTITY THEFT ISSUES overnight??

When my wife got her Green Card and SS number, she wanted to see if it was good, so she went into Macy’s and filled out an application for a Macys Card. When the lady came back she had a very puzzled look on her face and Promptly Denied the Application on the spot. My wife was rather surprised, so I ordered a copy of her credit report with the denial in my hand. When I received it, it turns out my Wife was a 47 yr old Mexican MAN living in Northern California, had a Job, owned a House, Car, credit cards.... All with Payments and PAID on Time, the guy actually had good credit. I didn’t know what to do and decided to do NOTHING about it. It was easy to prove it wasn’t her.

Well this was in February and Tax time was upon us, So when we filed our Joint Tax Return for the FIRST TIME EVER. The IRS and Homeland Security sent verification letters to determine the proper SS Number for my wife because a Return had already been filed with HER NEW NUMBER.

We sent in the Paperwork requested and 1 week later received notice from Homeland Security and the IRS that it had all been straightened out. They sent a copy of her credit report showing it was a brand new number and any other credit claim was invalid. She promptly went into Macys again and her credit was completely CLEAN and they gave her a Macys Card on the spot.

Within 1 week EVERY Credit Report and every instance of her SS number was GONE from HISTORY.

Why Do people PAY for Identity Theft Insurance???
The Feds can Fix it overnight if they wanted to.

While on the surface this appears to be shocking, reading the underlying information Ie. the audit summary document reveals an infinitesimal number of potential abuses as compared to the number of SS numbers.

We use a nine digit number to track 300,000,000 million living and roughly another 150,000,000 million people who have died just in the last 50 years. 6.5 million records are 1.4% of the total number of records that do not have a date of death. While not perfect, it does not mean those 6.5 million records are being used nefariously as the article implies.

Yes, the audit found that some people have ATTEMPTED to use numbers of people who would be 112+ to apply for jobs, etc. But it does not say they were successful.

The audit report cites some old information in reporting the oldest man. “In September 2013, a New York resident, believed to be the world’s oldest living man, died at age 112. According to the Gerontology Research Group, as of October 2013, only 35 known living individuals worldwide had reached age 112.”

The Gerontology Research Group seems to be in some flux since the death of the director of the project last year, but they are showing 56 living verified supercentenarians (just six months ago they were showing 78). Only two of them are men, both Japanese, they are 111 and 112. The GRG describes their list as only those verified and estimates that there are 350 to 400 living people over 110 years old.

So yes, 6.5 million is totally unlikely, but it is more of a need to get the records updated, not that 6.5 million people are using bogus SS numbers.

As my husband worked in Luxembourg for 13 years, he gets a pension from the Luxembourg government. He also gets a letter every year that requires him to report to the local police department with a photo ID, and then have the form notarized, in order to prove that he is still alive.

What is so difficult about that?
