A string of errors on the part of troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol resulted in a humiliating and frightening experience last year for a couple from Washington who were pulled over while cruising down the highway in their classic 1962 Chevy Impala.
Now, the couple, Robin and Beverly Bruins, has filed suit against the troopers and the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Trouble started for the Bruins when they were pulled over by a trooper after he initiated a routine records check on the car. When the check did not return a match, the trooper pulled the couple over, Las Vegas KLAS reported.
When the trooper ran the registration number which the couple gave him, he didnt include a plus sign. The vehicle showed up as an expired registration for a 2011 Harley Davidson, as a dismissal of charges document explains.
That mistake was compounded when the trooper relayed the Impalas VIN to a dispatcher who then mis-keyed one of the digits.
When the entry bounced back as a stolen vehicle from California, troopers then proceeded to badger Robin, forcing him to take off his shirt and kneel on the ground before ultimately arresting him.
Dash camera footage recorded the entire dramatic scene.
Driver! Remove your keys from the ignition and put them on the roof now! a trooper commands.
Robin complied and says he made a joke to his wife but then turned around to find himself staring at drawn guns.
And I turned and looked back and saw three gun barrels pointed at me. And, obviously it hit me. Whoa! Whats going on here. To this day I have never experienced anything like looking down the barrel of guns like that, he told KLAS.

Thanks for the laugh!
A perfect storm.....how unlucky can on couple be?
You would think that the toll road people ... in the photograph they mailed me along with a bill ===
Oakland Bay toll bridge sent me a bill, with threats on shutting me off at the DMV.
I never was there. They had an incomplete lisc. plate photo missing a number, and I think they send everyone possible the same bill.
I wrote back, pointing out that my truck was a Chevy and their pic was a Ford.
They said sorry for the mistake. That was the end of that.
IDIOTS! What are the names of the “officers”?
Cops hate us and assume the worst... quid pro quo.
Oath keepers my butt.
They are lucky it wasn’t LV PD. They’d have been shot dead before they could follow the conflicting commands. PEW PEW PEW.
It’s worth noting that motorcycle plates are a different size than a car plate. Cop should have questioned his own work at this point, rather than making stupid assumptions about the vehicle occupants.
Further, from the sounds of it, there should have been some effective profiling. These don’t sound like people who would fit the profile of vehicle thieves.
Bingo. Probably every state, and see my previous. Cop was completely incompetent here.
There is this concept known as sovereign immunity that generally protects the cops in cases like this.
I have bronchitis and can't talk so visual jokes are the only ones I can make.
Yes. It breeds incompetence. It's overused. Everybody in government is protected. People in the private sector doing the same work are not. It's time to limit sovereign immunity.
May God keep us all from these jack-booted idiots.
Get well soon, Teddy Bear of a Harmless nature.
They were luckier still that they, in absence of a dog to shoot, were not filled full of lead themselves. They, and everyone else that values their life, had better stay the hell out of Nevada.
The Judge is on the cops side. Judges are former prosecutors or lawyers in private practice.
Yeah, it won’t be long from now.
As long as the EBT cards are full, the sheep remain pacified.
To cops, everyone, including their boot lickers is the enemy. To be dealt with accordingly, to wit} violently and suddenly.
Cops do not make mistakes. If you do not believe that, ask one of them, they will tell you.
This has to be a hoax. The driver’s “white privilege” would have resulted in him being waved on, with a courteous “Have a good day, sir!”.
Correct! They would not have made it out of the car alive.
It's already happening in a more subtle way. Who trusts the police? Who helps the police? Even among their former white middle class base of support, they are increasingly seen as an occupying army instead of helpful public servants.
I'm sure it's the exact result the "progressives" wanted.
