Surgeon Sergio Canavero will be embarking on a project to implement the world's first human head transplant.
It's a fascinating concept. You have an otherwise perfectly healthy head on a body that no longer functions. You have, also, an otherwise perfectly healthy donor body. What if you could take the head from its non-functioning body and transplant it onto the healthy body?

I doubt this will work for more than a short term, for the same reason that mechanical hearts are not commonplace. The human system is incredibly complex and interrelated.
In the case of the heart it was discovered that some part of it gave off a tiny amount of a unique hormone. But why should that matter? For a short time, it doesn’t. But after weeks or months bad things start to happen without it. So in effect, they took an engine block and replaced its screws with nails.
And the head is a thousand times more complex.

Sure. Who’s the donor? someone who just died? Danm well better get those nerves connected right and have a shrink ready when the brain finds itself with a body that it doesn’t recognize.

Either way, I’d want to have my donor fully vetted to ensure that he didn’t have his head up his ass.

This is not new. Back in the 1800’s there was a scientist, Victor Franken..something, that performed this type of thing.

You’d be hung with virtually the whole horse, not just with a horse’s whatsis.
But you had better get used to eating oats.
