UT/TT Poll: In Texas, Walker Ties Cruz; Clinton Soaring
Texas Tribune ^ | 02/23/2015 | Ross Ramsey

Posted on 02/23/2015 12:04:12 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has erased U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s strong lead among Texas Republicans in the volatile and still-developing race for the party’s 2016 presidential nomination, according to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.

Cruz’s 25 percentage-point lead over Walker in October has vanished: The Texan won the support of 20 percent of the state’s registered voters to Walker’s 19 percent — a statistical tie. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and author Ben Carson were tied at 9 percent, and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry was next at 8 percent.

“Scott Walker is clearly breathing some of the oxygen on the right. The big takeaway here is that Ted Cruz is still a giant among Texas Republicans — but he is not invulnerable,” said Jim Henson, co-director of the poll and head of the Texas Politics Project at UT-Austin. “Conservatives are willing to look at another candidate who fits that profile.”

In the October UT/TT Poll, Cruz registered 27 percent of the support to Walker’s 2 percent. Perry, now running fifth, was running second a few months ago.

“This is the first real shakeup in this that we have seen,” Henson said. “We’re now a year out from primary season. It’s not really a race yet, but it is a shift, and people are probably starting to think about it.”

His idiotic comments about being a card carrying union member wasn’t too bright either......

In the minds of conservatives it wasn't. In the minds of the liberals folks who defend him here at FR and elsewhere, maybe it was.

We’re still waiting for Slick Rick to pay his $1 million 2012 taxpayer funded tab for Texas DPS security on the campaign trail.

Good luck with that. Word is he has a net worth of $3 million. It's not likely he would be willing to give up a third of it to appease conservatives, a group he clearly cares nothing about.

“Clinton Soaring”

*****************

Yeah, like the Hindenburg. Actually, I think that would be a good 2016 logo for her .... there’s an “H” in Hindenburg, she’s got the ‘blimp’ thing down pat, and perhaps she’ll even go up in flames as she did when black trumped female a few years ago.

So there are Eleven in the GOP primary, and Five in the Dem primary
and so that stats are lower because of more. Did they figure
in the Common Core stats also?

I’d say Cruz is doing pretty well since he isn’t running - yet. At this time, he’s traveling around the country making himself known to other states. Texas alone can’t make him win.

Never underestimate Cruz’s brain. He knows what he is doing.

but a liberal is never going to vote for any Republican for President, so appealing to liberals is worthless....that was my point.

And I didn’t see any Freeper supporting that comment - maybe there were some, but that’s REAL liberal for FR.

I don’t expect Texas will see it back in the state coffers any more than they’ll see the vast majority of the nearly $1 Billion Rick has used for his personal Pay to Play corporate welfare cronyism disguised as Enterprise/Technology/Jobs programs.

Then even Slick might get re-interested.

It’ll be good for hitlery to be the DEM “it” for 16. After nobama has another 18 months pissin on us until Nov 16, ain’t a dem on earth will get elected and that just might be the last we hear from either of these carp.

Rest assured that whatever candidates emerge will be those that the uniparty wants.

Poetic justice ain’t always bad. Maybe Slick could break into a new tear when the camera catches him hoorawing.

I think Cruz and Walker's best move is to have an informal pact: not to attack each other, but instead take on the RINO candidates like Bush.

Then the ticket will be either Cruz/Walker or Walker/Cruz, depending on who gets more votes -- but this can only happen if they avoid generating bad blood with each other.

There are liberals Republicans here at FR who would vote for Perry in a heartbeat.

And I didn’t see any Freeper supporting that comment - maybe there were some, but that’s REAL liberal for FR.

As hard as it is to believe, there are FReepers who have supported and defended my tagline. These people are Perry sycophants who believe in and support everything he says or does. From taxpayer-funded subsidies for ILLEGAL aliens to mandated nanny-state vaccinations with unproven and unwanted injections of Gardisil, if Perry supports it so do they.

Well I can’t answer for the Perry sycophants, but that misses the point I was trying to make. Perry LOST GROUND on that union comment - that he didn’t lose his sycophants is not important to this particular point - he lost a lot of non sycophant support.

Just remember, the Dem who runs in 2016 has to run on Obama’s two term record, for Obama’s third term. No ifs, ands, or buts.

With two nice alternatives: be denounced as `wacist’ for distancing themself from Obama, or be denounced as `wacist’ for begging Obama not to campaign for them.

Cruz in the VP slot would be a dreadful waste of his abilities. The VP is essentially just a lackey who has to do whatever the Prez tells him.

Cruz is a leader; not a follower!

Also, everyone here needs to understand that this “poll” was done in Austin; the most liberal blue hole in Texas. It is not representative of the leanings of Texans in general.

The ultimate test of a leader is his ability to get people to follow him. If Cruz gets more votes than Walker, then he gets the Pres nomination slot, and Walker can be VP and a valuable adviser on how to get things done as an executive.

If Walker gets more votes than Cruz, then that means that Walker is the superior leader, and Cruz could accept the VP slot and help Walker interact with Congress.
