CARSON CITY — A flurry of firearm and Second Amendment related bills introduced in the Legislature have already generated plenty of controversy even though none of the major proposals have even had hearings yet.

First there was a dust-up between Senate Democrats and Republicans over a GOP gun measure that includes domestic violence provisions that Democrats said fell short of what is needed.

Some good things but according to the folks I've talked to from Carson City, there's nothing to be done about the intergalactic background check initiative that WILL be on the 2016 ballot with gazillions of out of state nanny dollars. Gonna take some concentrated efforts to ensure the IPOS/SPOS don't vote this garbage into law. Even the Reno Gazette Journal says it's a waste of time and money.

If wimin are worried about being defenseless against their eeeeeeeevil menfolk, there otter be a law that forces the local PD to give them a handgun and training so they can defend themselves.

It’d be cheaper than requiring them to provide a cop to be their personal 24/7 security guard, and more reliable...

Police will be dispatched within minutes. To roll out yellow tape and make chalk outlines.

. . . nothing to be done about the intergalactic background check initiative that WILL be on the 2016 ballot

Propose a bill that State gun laws can't be stiffer than the feds. Bloomberg lost that battle in Congress, so he is, with some success, implementing it via state initiatives.

Propose our own background check that doesn't force buyers to go through FFLs and the 4473 registration routine, which is what the antis are after. (Gruberized voters are FOR background checks - all we can do is sever the link with the 4473s.)

Where in hell is the NRA on this?

From what I read, but no first hand knowledge, the NRA didn’t do a whole lot in WA with I-594. I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong. (Which, by the way, Mrs. rktman reminds me of being often. :>}) When I asked about any means to circumvent this POS intiative, one of the state senators told me the way the initiative/referendum process is set up, the item will either be enacted by the legislature as written (which it won’t be) or placed on the ballot as written. So, any states with this process in place, heads up, because bloomers and company WILL be headed your way eventually.

You are right with the NRA's absent/lame fight against I-594 as I was in the middle of that one.

So, any states with this process in place, heads up, because bloomers and company WILL be headed your way eventually.

Indeed, they are on the march. I got a Heads Up from the AZ Citizens Defense League that Bloomberg will have an initiative on the ballot in 2016.

Our people need to get hot and cut them off at the knees by proposing our own version (check through the state police??) WITHOUT filling out a Form 4473. If we don't, we will be saddled with this registration-scheme-in-disguise.

With so many senate seats up for grabs in ‘16, I’m thinkin’ that the NRA will be more focused on that than any piddly local issues.

Well, ignoring or not supporting local orgs in this fight will, IMO, result in those "piddly local issues" insuring the development of a national gun registration list.
