NYT: Who Loves America?
New York Times ^ | February 23, 2015 | Charles M. Blow

Posted on 02/23/2015 2:15:43 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

"....Ah, American exceptionalism again.

This is in part about a fundamental difference in views. It is a definitional difference, not about the meaning of love but about the meaning of America and its place in the world. Does exceptionalism — if one accepts the premise — bestow exemption from critique? Is uniqueness perfection? Does our difference require some sort of arresting of development?.....

....In a way, this is an ideological battle. Conservatism is rooted in preservation; progressivism advances alteration. These are different love languages. These languages turn on your view of change itself: When you think of America, do you see a country struggling to be maintained or one striving to be made better?....

....America is a living idea. It isn’t only the tenets of its founding, but also the terms of its future. Every day, we make America.

Seeking to preserve and enshrine one vision of this country from one period of its past robs it of what makes it magical: its infinite possibility for adjustment.....

The writer chooses to not educate his readers but to advance the "change" America ideology of the Democratic Party.

Obama “loves” America the way an abusive boyfriend “loves” the woman he beats and verbally abuses daily. He tells us how terrible our country is and how much we need to change, but he doesn’t actually like anything about our country. Liberals are the abused women who take that attention as a sign of love. I feel sorry for liberals.

The author is aptly named “Blow”, as that is all his article does is blow.

He offers nothing concrete about his views.

Nothing substantial about change.

No honest critique of this person inhabiting 1600 Pennsylvannia.

To wit:
“The concept of forming “a more perfect union” has embedded in it the idea of ambition but not perfection itself. There is room for betterment. America is not static. America is striving.”

Oh yes. Striving for what?

Pushing a concept of race baiting?

Complete refusal to acknowledge that America is the single greatest force for good and change in the world?

Show me a more moral people?

Show me a more compassionate people?

Show me a more generous people?

Show me?

“Elites” will have none of this “love America” emotion undermining their indoctrination of the masses.

They somehow think they can play the game of America as "just another one of the players in the world community" crap, yet still enjoy the benefits of that tabooed exceptionalism.

So in their mind, the fact that America is only 330 million strong, the 6-7 billion of the rest of the world (much of which suffers from a multitude of ills all the way from Neanderthal to Commie/Fascist/Socialist, to Islamic zealotry) is going to treat America as some sort of leader?

Why would they? There's nothing 'special' about us any more - they said so. Just 330 million fat, rich lazy infidel capitalists ripe for the taking.

The author is wrong. Conservatives do not adopt ideology, ie they do not curse nor black mail, but they do adhere to historical truths regarding freedom.

Islamists love America like a rapist prefers a hot victim. It is easier to steal in America because there is something rapists can covet, whereas their sht holes back home is already wrecked. Hence liberals always dialogue with people who have something to give and give up on preaching to islam where there is nothing.

As a reader of lib-leftist literature for many decades, I can't recall one left-leaning, American scribbler who exhibited an unabashed love for his or her country. Mostly what gushed forth from lib-leftist scribblers was tremendous disrespect and derisive laughter aimed at their country's values.

They might have expressed love for one particular aspect of America, but usually the only love they had for their country was a love for a country reshaped by themselves and other lib-leftists. They desired an America wholly different from what the average American thinks is America.

From the world of libs and leftists as expressed through movies, tv, literature, art, music much of what is considered basic American morals and values has been slandered, ridiculed, derided.

It seemeth to me that the writer doth protests too much.

In other words a direct bullseye to his self-identification and self-worth.

BINGO!!!!
You nailed it.
Any criticism or dissent must be challenged and rebutted. Especially any criticism or dissent toward their Dear Leader.

Typical Banana Republic reaction.

Yeah, “change” to socialism. Or, using Obama’s vision, fascism.

"Why would they? There's nothing 'special' about us any more - they said so. Just 330 million fat, rich lazy infidel capitalists ripe for the taking."

What you're saying is that we have become too "civilized" to do what's necessary to survive in an uncivilized world, and I agree. Survival of the fittest is still being contested here on the third planet, and us Dodo birds better start paying attention.
