Liberals have been wailing over the past two decades on why poor whites vote for the Republican Party. After all, the Democrats are offering free stuff to the poor, such as free health care, free welfare payments, free food stamps, and other free goodies. In the opinion of the Democrats, poor whites are voting against their economic interests by voting for the Republican Party. But the record of poor whites voting Republican goes back to the 1860 election, when Lincoln got more votes from poor whites than each of the other three candidates in the Presidential election.
The reason why poor whites vote Republican is very simple. They love God and they love America.
The answer is simple. Many poor whites have the pride to NOT want handouts. Is this so hard for libs to understand?

Liberals can’t comprehend that sizable numbers of people disagree with how liberal the Democrat party is on various issues such as abortion.
The Democrat party pushes Obamacare, abortion, homosexual marriage, global warming, illegal immigration and amnesty, school lunches with Michelle Obama, opposes new energy development. The Democrat party pushes government control focused in Washington, DC, as opposed to power to the states. They oppose individual liberty in too many cases.
There are other issues too, such as these, which are opposed by big numbers of Americans.
Point being, there are many issues besides just economic issues which cause people to vote as they do.

The reason why poor whites vote Republican is very simple. They love God and they love America.
Essentially that’s why most of us vote GOP.
Unfortunately we are under the mistaken impression that the platform they run on has anything to do with what they do once elected.
We only have the illusion of an opposition party. The goals of those at the top of both parties are now essentially the same.
The Democrats have been openly hostile to white people for many years, but hatred of white people has become more strident over the past 7 years.
Soon, you won't be able to tell the difference between the Democrat Party and the Black Panther Party.
Dr. Weston Price was a dentist who studied people groups all over the world. He found a connection between diet and the structure of the skull and how it affects the alignment of teeth. Maybe most people’s Irish ancestors came to the US after suffering malnourishment during the potato famine? Or, even living on just potatoes for a few generations before that affected bone and teeth structure? If his theory is true, then my diet must have been horrible for most of my life (and it was typical processed foods as a child) because I have straight teeth, but my girls do not. Two are having orthodontic work done and the two year old already looks like she will need it. Her crooked smile is cute now, but she will hate it when she gets older.

I live on the UWS of Manhattan, one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the US. And yet the vote is 80% for the most left-wing candidate on the ballot. The progs I discuss politics with flip out when I bring up Thomas Frank’s book, and apply it to NYC or other left-wing bastions. Why don’t Manhattanites vote their economic interests?
It isn’t a riddle- they actually do vote their economic interests. Affluent socialists are not in favor of income and wealth mobility. Their policies simply redistribute wealth on the basis of political status rather than value generation. They are for the “state capitalism” originally proposed by Lenin: expropriation of wealth, given to the vanguard of the proletariat, i.e., cronies of the rulers.

For an individual, the poverty level is $11,670 or less.
For a childless couple, or a single parent with one child, the poverty level is $15,730 or less.
For a couple with one child, or a single-parent with two children, the poverty level is $19,790 or less.
For a couple with two children, or a single parent with three children, the poverty level is $23,850 or less.
Another reason is because most “poor” Republicans don’t think of themselves as being “poor” and wouldn’t blame it on someone else if they were.
Poverty-level whites do vote Democrat. Dems real question is why everybody doesn’t vote for free stuff for themselves. They assume stuff can be free and doesn’t come with strings attached and don’t understand why everyone isn’t as stupid as them.
Not having a Jesse Jackson brow beating them helps.
Affirmative action hasn’t helped the democrats.
Poor whites also don’t want to stay poor. Liberal policies would insure that they do.
Oh we have browbeaters on the GOP side. Every election there are those threatening and cajoling conservatives to vote for candidates that are unacceptable to conservatives.
I have been reading Freerepublic for years and have seen it.
I have only been commenting for a couple of weeks and have already been attacked numerous times for saying that I will not vote for another cheap labor importer. Been accused of supporting Hillary several times.

When it comes down to it.....
If you vote for the Democrats, you are voting for gay marriage, gun control, abortion, a secular communist state, special privileges such as hate crimes, welfare, and non-discrimination laws that only benefit certain citizens who contribute little or nothing to society at large, and a foreign policy that generally benefits other nations at the expense of our own. None of these can remotely be called good, and you do not have to be middle class or upper middle class to see it.
People living in this country are poor by choice.
Poor whites are most likely to be denied admission to colleges, refused scholarships and internships. Assume no college, and even in middle school your kids are not given free tutoring and resources by schools, such as tutoring for kids of color or discounts for camp that don’t include you. It makes you hate either the political group that puts you at the bottom of the totem pole while pronouncing you privileged.
