Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz calls out Giuliani for 'offensive' Obama comments
CNN Money ^

The Starbucks (SBUX) CEO called out former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for questioning President Obama's "love" for his country.

"As an American, I find Rudy Giuliani's vicious comments about President Obama 'not loving America' to be profoundly offensive to both the President and the Office," Schultz said in a statement.

Giuliani caused a political stir this week with his remarks about Obama at a dinner event featuring Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, in a speech first reported by Politico. He said he didn't believe Obama "loves America."

Pray tell CEO Sgt. Schultz, what part of Giuliani's statements can you disprove? Please cite examples of AliBama's patriotism and love of country.

Shut up, Howard, you peddler of overpriced coffee. Where are you when Democratic politicians say the same thing - or worse - about Republicans, i.e., Republicans hate the poor or hate women or hate blacks or that Bush deliberately allowed 9/11 to justify war with Iraq?

A few years ago Starbucks sued a tiny, Russian Orthodox monastery on Puget Sound for selling a “Christmas blend” coffee as a fundraiser. Starbucks claimed proprietary rights to the term “Christmas blend.” Can you imagine the arrogance of that? (By the way, Starbucks lost that one.) Ever since then, I’ve detested Starbucks and everything it stands for.

“but I’m guessing there’s a lot of FReepers who are hooked.”

I would guess that a large percentage of Starbucks customers disagree with Schultz's politics. It would be in their best interest if they quit spending any money there. Interestingly, there are always teenagers in Starbucks. Caffeine and the high calorie sugar laden drinks they sell teenagers can't be good for them. A Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Creme has 860 calories (without whip cream; 960 with), and a Starbucks Zucchini Walnut muffin has 640 calories. Why isn't Michelle tackling this issue?

I do disagree with the CEO’s statement and many, if not all of the company positions...but there are just some things I’m not going to compromise on.

Until some other company comes out with single serve instant packets that are better than VIA Columbian or Italian Roast, I’m pretty much stuck. I’m a single or 2 cup a day coffee drinker...and when backpacking, there is no better coffee to be had with just hot water.

I’ve searched and short of buying a coffee maker/brewer/kuerig machine, there’s nothing out there that beats them.

I do not patronize their establishments as their coffee in the shops is terrible...had it one time and never again.

Based on many of the comments, I’m going to be viewed as quite contrarian on the matter. But that’s not entirely true as I do agree with many of them.

Here’s what I think about Schultz: He needs to provide a complete and honest audit of the money collection jars he placed in all his stores a few years ago, asking for $5 donations to help obama create jobs. One day they just disappeared and nobody’s said a word since.

Those in a retail business hurt their pocketbook when they discuss politics and/or religion.

Not a smart move Mr Starbucks.

I own SBUX stock and things like this piss me off. Focus on the business.....this will only drive people away. Is anyone going to buy more coffee because he is saying this? No.

I agree...and the sword cuts both ways...

I guess in today’s corporate world, unless a company is making some kind of effort to be PC, inclusive, diverse and all that other claptrap, they’re not desirable somehow.

Corporations today make a big show of this, I guess they feel in today’s PC climate it’s “required”...

If I boycotted every company that ticked me off, I’d probably be living in a mud hut with no internet.

Obama as a sitting Senator said the President of the United States was not Patriotic.

Rudy, a Private Citizen said the same of Obama.

Which comment should have elicited the most outrage?
