Western Daily Press ^

Posted on 02/19/2015 10:07:37 AM PST by Smartisan

RAF fighters were scrambled after two Russian bear bombers were spotted off the coast of Cornwall, the Ministry of Defence has said.

The Typhoon jets, from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, escorted the Russian aircraft which were flying in international airspace close to the UK yesterday afternoon, an MoD spokesman said.

An MoD spokesman said: `"RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighter aircraft were launched yesterday after Russian aircraft were identified flying close to UK airspace.

“The Russian planes were escorted by the RAF until they were out of the UK area of interest. At no time did the Russian military aircraft cross into UK sovereign airspace.”

Pinch of salt needed here, but unsubstantiated comment from 2 people say the Bear’s flew over UK land.

MoD sticking with their previous comments.

“There is a bear in the woods. For some people, the bear is easy to see. Others don’t see it at all. Some people say the bear is tame. Others say it’s vicious and dangerous. Since no one can really be sure who’s right, isn’t it smart to be as strong as the bear? If there is a bear.”

As I noted on the other thread about this, which is more telling??

That a Russian Bomber supposedly flew over UK Territory?

Or that the UK Military has declined so far that they couldn’t intercept a 50 yr-old prop plane, before it did??

Sorry I didn’t see the other thread. Sorry for repetition.

Difficult to reply to your question, containing as it does a supposition that hasn’t been confirmed. It boils down to who you want to believe in the first place.

Well, since the Russian economy is going down the crapper, Putin has to do SOMETHING to keep their spirits up....

Military action certainly playing its part in attempting to distract from domestic problems, that’s for sure.

It was allowed to fly by to make a sensational story in the pressaganda.

The elites want to repartition countries yet again, they’re inviting us sheeple to participate in their latest military adventures.

But are they Tu-95’s or the nearly identical Tu-142, which were originally built as anti-submarine platforms but in recent years became state-of-the-art Electronics Intelligence/Signals Intelligence (ELINT/SIGINT) planes like the RC-135’s flown by the USAF? The Russian AF has around 40 Tu-142’s in service, primarily as recon platforms to test Western defensive radar systems.

A very good question that I don’t have the answer to. A ‘bomber’ flying near/over UK sells far better than ELINT/SIGINT to the average reader.

Quickly re RC135’s, they also entered service with the RAF and 51 Squadron last year. Highly capable platforms it seems.
