Ok, OK, {Manly Handshake} back to you......:-)
This American band went to the UK when they heard of a Fifties revival in that country. One of the great things about the Eighties was the interest in old fashioned, kick-ass rock and roll and rockabilly. These guys were on the cutting edge of that movement.
What did you think of Maddi’s action this morning?
((HUGS))
Euro-rock was an idea that had started in Germany in the Seventies, with such bands as the Silver Convention. The idea was to have lyrics that consisted of repeated English words that formed the hook. Non-English speakers could catch on quickly, and the song could be an international hit. The repeated Gloria is the hook. But if you listen carefully past the upbeat rhythm and happy A Major melody, its a song about paranoia, psychosis and loss. It started out as an Italian song that was a hit in Italy in 1979, but it was updated for the synth-pop dance trend that was replacing Disco. (Thank God!) The lyrics add a hard edge to what sounds on the surface like a simple dance number.
Laura (1957-2004) had a four-octave range and an operatic quality alto voice. She came out of New York and was signed by Atlantic Records, who had a hard time categorizing her due to her long list of talents. This song put her on the charts. Her death at age 47 from a brain aneurism brought an abrupt end to a fine career.

~ Good Evening! ~
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
Where intellect and emotion clash, the heart often has the greater wisdom wrote the authors of A General Theory of Love. In the past, they say, people believed that the mind should rule the heart, but science has now discovered the opposite to be true. Who we are and who we become depends, in part, on whom we love.
Those familiar with Scripture recognize this as an ancient truth, not a new discovery. The most important commandment God gave to His people gives the heart the prominent place. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength (Deut. 6:5). Not until the gospels of Mark and Luke do we learn that Jesus added the word mind (Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27). So, what scientists are just now discovering, the Bible taught all along.
Those of us who follow Christ also know the importance of whom we love. When we obey the greatest commandment and make God the object of our love, we can be assured of having a purpose that transcends anything we could imagine or our strength could achieve. When our desire for God dominates our hearts, our minds will stay focused on ways to serve Him, and our actions will further His kingdom on earth and in heaven.
INSIGHT
: According to rabbinic tradition, there are 613 commandments in the Torah (the Pentateuch) which every pious Jew must keep. When asked which of these commandments is the most important, Jesus (quoting Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Leviticus 19:18) said to love the Lord your God and love your neighbor (Mark 12:30-31). All the commandments are summarized in the duty to love (Matt. 22:40). This priority of love is echoed by John, the apostle of love, in 1 John 4:7-21.
“So upon boarding a naval vessel, the protocol is:
BOARDING OFFICER: Salutes the flag, salutes the Officer of the Deck, requests permission to board.
OFFICER OF THE DECK: Returns salute and gives permission.
Do I have it all?”
Not restricted to officers. Enlisted men have to do it, too.
Good evening ladies!
Thanks, Publius, for Rachmaninov’s “The Star Spangled Banner”. ((HUGS))

What a beautiful thread! Enjoy your evening! :)
There were punk and New Wave sounds that would have been relegated to little FM stations at the far end of the dial, had not MTV brought them to a wider audience. The composting of popular music during the Seventies was now replaced by an interest in getting back to basics. This is one of the most important songs of the decade, and the video is a classic.
Brian Setzer managed to revive two long-dormant genres over the course of his career - rockabilly and swing.
He’s a heck of a guitar player too.

So here I am playing part-time host. Who posts the #50, #100 stuff in the course of the evening? My memory is foggy.
Hold On My Heart (Phil Collins)
