German defense minister plans long-term modernization of military

Germany’s defense minister Ursula von der Leyen said Friday that her government planned to make the military one of the most sought after employers in the country. Von der Leyen was presenting a proposal for a more attractive Bundeswehr at the German parliament, the Bundestag.

“This isn’t a sprint; rather, we have a marathon ahead of us,” the minister said.

Von der Leyen, who belongs to the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), proposed more part-time work, better promotion opportunities and legally-stipulated working hours—a first in the German military. …

The fatal flaw in this theory is females in the military.

Females will increasingly drain military budgets, weaken training and warrior attitudes, and will only increase the fantasy of technology being enough to win major wars.

The female Defense Minister is probably unaware of that.

I thought Germany's military had atrophied to a shadow of its former self by financing the German welfare state? I don't see the pussified Bundeswehr making a comeback.

Threats against neighbors, political skullduggery in Europe, missile tests over Scandinavia, airforce buzzing NATO, and invasions of Ukraine have consequences. And btw, it’s about freakin’ time. This should have started as soon as Zero was sworn in three times in one day back in 2009.

Sounds like they’re trading in the horse cavalry for a few jeeps. A start, but still won’t be much more effective against the newest Russian battle tanks.

German Army currently consists of ~6 Brigades. It couldn’t police, never mind invade, Poland.
