The world's elite are snapping up properties in the tiny country, which they see as a shelter from the threat of terrorism, civil unrest and instabilities in the financial markets. Interest in pricey land and homes in the North and South Islands has soared in recent years following terrorist strikes and civil disobedience in North America, the UK and Europe.

I can only afford gated communities. This is our future. Everyone, including the “elites,” have an instinct for survival. And I don’t believe that the so-called elites are leading us. We are personally responsible for our own lives and choices.

Yes, and not so wise either. They feel the storm will bypass them b/c of their great wealth. Its just not that way. The world is going to change in ways they could have never imagined or planned for. Money is good for some things and not so much for others.

My daughter lives in NZ and I can tell you that the cost of living is out of sight compared with the US. I don’t know how the NZ citizens, especially young couples starting out, can live with the exorbitant prices for food and energy and homes. They also have their share of crime, which makes many areas not as safe to live (more property theft than murders and robberies thankfully). Buyer Beware, even you Elitists.
