Johnny can’t read or write so they need some subjective scores to make the report cards look good

All white kids get 5% marked off, and all white boys get another 5% down. How can you prove otherwise? These grades are totally subjective and made up by their leftist teachers.

Districts are changing their report cards to reflect the new Common Core State Standards, which are intended to move students away from rote learning and memorization. Rather, critical thinking and analysis geared toward deeper understanding of academic subjects are the goals.

Rote learning gets a bad rap from educationists who do not know how to think.

If you can't memorize it is very hard to know when you are thinking critically.

The people pushing this crap are the type of people we see on Jimmy Kimmel being interviewed on the street and proving themselves to be real idiots even though they went to college.

Gratitude to whom? And, if a kid rejects state controls and stands up for the right, will they award ‘grit’ points or find him anti-social and mark him for a tire factory or a labor camp?

In elementary school back in the ‘60s, we not only got a letter grade in every subject, we were also graded 1 to 3 on “effort” for each subject.

That doesn’t sound to different from “grit” to me.

Any bids on when schools will start grading sexual performance? I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re trying to figure out a way to do just that, now.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I don’t know how the concept of “grit” is being used here. However, the concept is a legitimate one, and can be useful in education.

Identifying who succeeds as a result of persistent effort, and why they make those efforts is valuable. Encouraging students to emulate the thought processes and behaviors of students with grit increases success in school (and in life, in general).
