[March 25, 2013] Bobby Jindal’s Voucher Schools Teach That Slavery Was Good, and The KKK Are Grea
Politicus USA - Real Liberal Politics ^ | March, 25th, 2013 | Jason Easley

Gov. Bobby Jindal’s voucher schools are teaching Louisiana kids that most slave owners were kind to their slaves, and that the KKK are civic reformers.

Bobby Jindal’s usage of Louisiana as a prop for his 2016 presidential campaign is doing a lot more damage to the state than the rest of the country can ever possibly imagine. However, Jindal’s isn’t just wrecking the state for today. His “school choice” plan is being used by the far right to teach rewritten history and whitewashed racism to the state’s children.

Jindal’s voucher schools will be free to teach lessons like slave owners were pretty good guys, “A few slave holders were undeniably cruel. Examples of slaves beaten to death were not common, neither were they unknown. The majority of slave holders treated their slaves well.”—United States History for Christian Schools, 2nd ed., Bob Jones University Press, 1991.”

Louisiana’s kids will also be learning that the KKK is just misunderstood.

In Jindal Land’s classrooms, the KKK is really a reform organization that was concerned with morality, “[The Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross. Klan targets were bootleggers, wife-beaters, and immoral movies. In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians.”—United States History for Christian Schools, 3rd ed., Bob Jones University Press, 2001″

According to Crazy Crawfish’s Blog, “Louisiana’s state Superintendent of Schools, John White, is aware of these troubling texts being used, as is BESE president, Chas Roemer, but they believe a parent’s choice to send their kids to a school (that teaches slavery has gotten a bad rap) is not just ok, but should be defended at any cost. They feel it would be an injustice to interfere in the teachings of voucher schools. . . at least those that teach that ownership of other human beings was not something to be ashamed of, but something to be proud of.”

This is the kind of education that Bobby Jindal wants to give to all poor and middle class Louisiana kids, on the taxpayers’ dime.

Bobby Jindal is ruining Louisiana today, destroying the state for tomorrow, and he wants to be your next president.

This article from March 2013 is currently making the rounds on Facebook, getting all the lefties worked up and spreading hate against conservatives. I guess (to coin a phrase) haters gotta hate, huh.

Anyway, I thought I'd post it here so that conservatives will be up to speed on what the left is spreading around.

Totally delusional. Notice how the leftards don’t want the poor blacks to ever have the option to go to a non public common core commie school. They might realize they don’t need the Democrat party to live their life and prosper.

Who the heck would send their kids to a school the used such pro-democrat (slavery and the KKK) text books?

Do the teaching materials also mention that the Democrat Party was the slavery party and that the KKK was the enforcement arm of the Democrat Party?

“Slavery Was Good”

“most slave owners were kind to their slaves”

Not the same issue.

The socialist left is against school choice and voucher schools. Bobby Jindal, like most conservatives, is for these as government run schools are the tool the left uses to indoctrinate our kids. Plus, the leftist teacher unions are scared to lose their monopoly. The critic in this article cherry picks language from two books published by Bob Jones Univ press to assert voucher schools might use the books in school, which I doubt.

No more of a fairy tale than stating that the Black Panthers are an altruistic generous group of men and the NAACP is looking after the betterment of all blacks.

Aren't these the same species of prevaricators that swear universal healthcare is affordable?

“A few slave holders were undeniably cruel. Examples of slaves beaten to death were not common, neither were they unknown. The majority of slave holders treated their slaves well.”

That does not mean that slavery was good just that most slave owners were not sadistic monsters.

Which was true if for no other reason then basic economics. If you beat a slave to death every week and you have 50 slaves you run out of slaves before the year is done.

While not an endorsement of slavery but slaves were an enormous investment and treating them badly was not a great idea and probably pretty uncommon.

George Washington Carver was an infant when slavery ended but he was raised in the big house by the family that had owned his parents. They educated him with their own children.

The left keeps wanting to have this “conversation” but if they want to have it with me, I’m getting equal time to present what I have learned.

For instance 1750s slavery was a whole different animal than 1850s slavery and I can tell them how.

No. 1 - Why are they “HIS” schools?

No. 2 - To a slave owner, a slave was valuable property, so I imagine that ameliorated the propensity for abuse, although some individual slave owners could be psychotic and there was little control over their abuses.

No. 3 - The original Klan, while a bit unsavory, was a response to the Radical Republican of agenda of punishing the South for the rebellion.

The lessons ascribed to this curriculum regarding the KKK, if true, would be absurd.

What is said about slave owners is less controversial. There can be no presumption that slave owners were cruel simply because they owned slaves. It does not follow. So I don't see what all the hysteria is there.

But the KKK material is woefully revisionist and fraudulent, if presented as claimed.

These folks act like Slavery was an American invention. It has existed for millennium (probably since the time of Nimrod). It exists today.
Yes, it is an abomination - but don't get aghast that slavery existed on our shores. It unfortunately took time to get people to wrap their minds around the fact that what had been common practice since 'forever' was wrong, and indeed anti-Christian. The fact that God gave instructions on how slaves and masters should act was in no ways condoning those actions.
A simple acceptance of the Two Laws:
#1: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength - and knowing that people are made in the image of God; and
#2: Love your neighbor as yourself
Should have clearly caused slavery to be rejected -- but thousands of years of habit was hard to break.

That said, the offended parties should contemplate the alternative. Had not slavery existed in the United States at that time - the African tribesmen who were conquered by their neighbor African tribesmen would have just been killed. Or worse for them, sold to the muslims whose standard practice was to castrate the males.

I’m not clicking the link. Does he actually cite any schools in Louisiana using these particular books?
