That does not mean that slavery was good just that most slave owners were not sadistic monsters.

Which was true if for no other reason then basic economics. If you beat a slave to death every week and you have 50 slaves you run out of slaves before the year is done.

The really dangerous/deadly work was left to Irish immigrants. The slave owners were not about to endanger their valuable property, but preferred to use the low-wage immigrants. I want reparations NOW!
