Palin could EASILY announce she is running as independent and take most of that immediately and cause many to switch from the GOP (and the “Reagan Democrats” from the dems too- Reagan Democrats are republicans who don’t know it, because they believe the dems lies.)

If Sarah announces she is running as an independent, I know of at least two Republicans that would switch in a heartbeat.

I don’t really like the “independent” moniker, as most self-identified independents I’ve met over the years tend to be either libs trying for a faux hipness by publically denying their obediance to an organized Party despite their 100% support of the Dems... or conspiracy-minded dopeheads who think every videocamera and every jerkwater policeman is deliberately positioned to come after them and their precious bodily fluids.

But then, I look at the GOP, and they’ve surrendered on every single issue that originally led me to be alligned with them, and obviously no longer share the same beliefs or values I have whatsoever. They’ve become like distant foreigners to me, who share vastly more in common with the loathesome Dems. Supporting amnesty, helping fund Obamacare, and no longer even standing against degeneracy like fag marriage. I just can’t stomach the GOP anymore.

So I guess I don’t even identify as anything anymore. I’m not even sure I particularly feel like thinking of myself as an American anymore, considering the sick, deviant path the country seems to be happily embracing.

I've been saying the same thing for months and months. I think America would be thrilled to see a new, viable, Political Party arise. Choosing a name would be a slippery slope. Something like "The American Conservative Party" of "The Patriot Party" would send up red flags. I'm thinking: "The American Independent Party".... or whatever.

I'm pretty partial to The American Ammo party.

Indeed — After the crap that the Republican party's been pulling over the last decade, I can fully see how one would be ashamed and disgusted to affiliate themselves with it.

Remember those independents are a mixture of people who think the GOP isn’t conservative enough AND people that think the Dem aren’t liberal enough AND people who don’t want the nuisances (mailings, fund raising, GOTV) that come with aligning to a party AND people that just think party politics is stupid. Not exactly a coalition to build a third party on.

But the REAL reason a 3rd party is not viable is because none of them want to be. Primarily 3rd parties are made up of Quixotic people who like to lose nobly. There are ways to build a viable 3rd party, and all the ones out there studiously avoid them.

Well, have you seen the mindset of the statists in office?
These conspiracy-minded dopeheads may be more right than wrong.

But then, I look at the GOP, and they’ve surrendered on every single issue that originally led me to be alligned with them

It's far worse than that — the Republicans are actively supporting the loathsome assaults on liberty.
Just look at what they've done WRT the NSA's domestic espionage (funded and excused them); the IRS's political targeting (funded them, and sided with them against Tea Party-types); look at the budget.

They’ve become like distant foreigners to me, who share vastly more in common with the loathesome Dems. Supporting amnesty, helping fund Obamacare, and no longer even standing against degeneracy like fag marriage. I just can’t stomach the GOP anymore.

Not only foreigners, but hostile foreigners seeking to subjugate you.

“Independents” are overrated. They are nothing more than embarrassed, low information DemocRATS.

Whenever I meet these types and talk to them, it becomes apparent pretty quickly that they are really Liberal. They go right up to election time calling themselves everything BUT Liberal.... THEN they go and vote Liberal!

I am an Independent who votes mostly Republican...I have voted 3rd Party and will do so again if the right candidate shows up...

Have voted Republican since Jimmy Carter...The Republicans seem to be the lesser of the evils...

Exactly!
Independents are Conservatives who are disgusted with the GOPe.
Moderates are liberals who are too embarrassed to admit they’re liberals.

Since they are going to stick us with Bush and Hillary anyway, I'd love to see Cruze and Sarah team up for a 3rd Party ticket...

The only problem they'd encounter is the negative press they'd get...

I received my Independent card in the mail last week - first time I was not listed Republican since I met Dick Armey in 1984

Nonsense. Vast numbers of independents are conservatives.

Exactly...There aren't enough Republicans to win an election...That's why little Bush won and Romney and McCain and Daddy Bush (2nd run) and Dole couldn't win...And that's why Romney and/or Bush will not win the next one...

It's the Republicans who keep giving the Presidency away because they refuse to support anyone other than the liberal GOPe candidate...

It depends a lot on the state where you are registered. Pennsylvania requires you to be registered in the party of the primary where you wish to vote.

Some states let Independents vote in the primary of their choice.

Others have a wide open primary system where registration doesn't matter.

There is a lot to be said for Pennsylvania's closed primary system. But if you live in such a state, registering Independent essentially keeps you out of choosing the nominees, not a good situation at all.

Those independents must be dumber than dirt. Just look at where our nation is today. One big mess and guess that is why they do not want to be either a ‘d’ or an ‘r’. No one goes after ‘i’s’.

RINOs have not taken over the GOP nationally?

I will never vote for a democrat in any capacity, but will likely never vote for another Republican either.

The exception may be a very local race.

Well said. My wife and I have both renounced the GOP for being too liberal. We are now CONSERVATIVE Independents.

Think most liberal independents are fiscally conservative and socially liberal.
