Mavericks? Independents far outnumber Republicans and Democrats - and it’s recordbreaking
Washington Times ^ | 1/8/2015 | Jennifer Harper

Republican, Democrat — and Maverick? We already know that Americans are weary of Congress, the White House, gridlock and government. Now that ire has inspired voter defections: The number of self-described ‘independents” is at a record high level says substantive new Gallup research. “An average 43 percent of Americans identified politically as independents in 2014,” says analyst Jeffrey M. Jones, who also reports the number is the highest since the pollster began tracking the phenomenon in 1988.

The liars who tell us that a third party is not viable are sounding increasingly desperate. The electoral fields are ripe for the harvest if some group will step forward and expound a common-sense approach to solving our economic and politcal problems.

Call it what you want - The American Tradition Party, the Liberty Party (not Libertarians, God help us), the Lean and Mean Party. Who cares?

We need a SECOND party NOW to oppose the Republicrat/Demoplican party.

I don’t get people who call themselves ‘independent’.

Whenever I meet these types and talk to them, it becomes apparent pretty quickly that they are really Liberal. They go right up to election time calling themselves everything BUT Liberal.... THEN they go and vote Liberal!

I’m out on the ledge ready to jump myself. It won’t take much of a push at this point.

I like to see the United States Independence Party (USIP), modeled after UKIP.

It would be nice to once again have a two party system with real choice for voters. Democrats and Republicans are at this moment in time a distinction without a difference.

I've been saying the same thing for months and months. I think America would be thrilled to see a new, viable, Political Party arise. Choosing a name would be a slippery slope. Something like "The American Conservative Party" of "The Patriot Party" would send up red flags. I'm thinking: "The American Independent Party".... or whatever.

I’ve left the Republican party for the Tea Party. No more money to be sent to the the Republican party for me - only for clearly Tea Party candidates.

“Independent” is code for a Liberal who is too embarrassed to identify himself/herself/itself as a Democrat.

Nonsense. Vast numbers of independents are conservatives.

Some folks here in Oregon created an ‘Independent Party’. It considers itself the ‘moderate’ party, but it’s only moderate between the Progressive Dems & Progressive Reps...

...And for conservatives who are too embarrassed to identify himself/herself/itself as a Republican.

Think about it. Poles show that an overwhelming percentage of the population is conservative and very few are liberal.

Philosophically an independent here...not a spit wad worth of difference betweens Dems and Reps anymore.

Actually, in CA “No party preference” which used to be called “Decline to state”.

See tagline.

The so called ‘independents’ are far left liberals that think the Dem party isn’t communist enough, and conservatives that think RINOs have taken over the REP party.

Come election day they vote the party that comes closest to their beliefs.

Turd parties result in electing exactly opposite of what they claim to want.
