Scott Walker Goes Big and Bold at Iowa Freedom Summit
Breitbart ^ | 24 Jan 2015 | Dan Riehl

Posted on 01/24/2015 3:23:59 PM PST by mandaladon

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker eschewed the podium at Saturday’s Iowa Freedom Summit, opting to use the full stage to work the room with an incredibly high-energy speech that repeatedly stressed the themes of “common sense conservative reform” and the GOP’s need to “go big and go bold” if they want to win in American politics today.

Walker ended by telling Iowans, “I’m going to come back many more times in the future” and pointed to a broader American revival similar to the one he said he’s led in Wisconsin. This seemed to be a clear sign that Walker intends to aggressively pursue the GOP nomination in 2016.

Striking a mostly populist pose, Walker began his speech by thanking individuals for helping him to take on “big money Washington,” special interests, and unions in Wisconsin. He also thanked people on behalf of both himself and his wife for their prayers, citing the support they both felt as they endured protests and death threats for pursuing his political agenda in Wisconsin.

Occupy Wall Street began in Wisconsin, said Walker, adding that the threat that bothered him the most was one that said they were going to “gut his wife” like a deer.

That portion of Walker’s message appeared designed to make the case that he’d have the strength and drive to stay the course, however difficult, should he opt to run for the presidency in 2016. From there, Walker shifted to economics.

" walker does NOT support amnesty unless you are defining amnesty in a completely extreme way. HotAir.com clarified the issue with him in an interview:
Towards the end of the interview, Bannon noted that “Amnesty is about the sovereignty of the country.” But, he asked Walker, “the Washington Post said earlier that you’re pro-pathway to citizenship.” “See now that’s where they take it out of context,” Walker said in response. “I’ve not said there should be amnesty in this country. I don’t believe that. I don’t support the legislation being kicked around. What I’ve said repeatedly is we need to fix the immigration system, but fix the legal system. So if people want to come in this country we should have a legal immigration system.” Bannon then interjected: “And take care of the borders and everything we have to do first.” Walker concurred, saying that any immigration reform efforts should “fix the front door.”

Scott Walker is one of the few politicians on the scene with a spine.

Actions count. I like this guy.

2016 Contender Governor Scott Walker: Obama’s Exec Amnesty Hurting Middle Class Americans, GOP Must Block Funding Posted by Staff

11 Like Like Tweet Tweet 2

On Friday’s program, Laura was joined by likely 2016 presidential candidate, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. Walker warned that Obama’s job-killing executive amnesty will have a devastating impact on American middle class workers, who are already struggling to make ends meet. Walker explained that Obama has demonstrated that he cannot be trusted and, as such, the Republican Party should not cut a deal with him on immigration.

Walker also told Ingraham that if the GOP wants to win elections, it must focus on appealing to working class voters through a message of economic populism.

Interview Excerpts: [LISTEN]

Walker on Obama’s exec amnesty: “This guy went from the audacity of hope to the audacity of the power play... Two weeks after (in his own words) his policies were on the ballot and they were resoundingly defeated, instead of doing what any normal person would do which is to back off and figure out a way to work with the new Senate majority, newly grown House majority, instead he’s doubled down and gone the opposite way, and I think really put in place a legal crisis (at a minimum) and a constitutional crisis in terms of the separation of powers.” [2:50]

Walker on whether GOP should strike a deal with Obama on immigration: “Not at all... on immigration we should be going full out against this president and Congress and the American people should push back on this, I think there’s a legal case to be made, the power of the purse has to be invoked.” [4:14]

Walker warns exec amnesty will harm American worker: “You’re going to see a whole wave of people trying to come into America now, and that will affect people’s jobs, it will affect middle class workers, it will affect the unemployment rate in this country. And I think its even worse by not securing the border, it’s a matter of national security, it’s not just people coming from bordering countries, this is an entry point that we have not secured, and we have groups like ISIS that are trying to threaten the American way of life.” [6:05]

Walker says GOP must appeal working class voters in order to win elections: “The bread and butter of what makes my state work and I think makes this country work are the men and women who every day go to work and work hard, not just for a paycheck, they work hard because they want their children and their grandchildren to have a better life than they’ve had. We need to be fighting for them every single day, and when we show...that Republicans care for the average working American, we will win presidential elections just like we won gubernatorial elections.”

Walker on whether GOP should use power of the purse to block Obama’s executive amnesty: “Absolutely.” [10:15]

Walker: “I believe this president measures success in government, by how many people are dependent on the government. By how many people are on Medicaid, by how many people are on food stamps, by how many people are on unemployment. We should measure success in this country by just the opposite – by how many people are no longer dependent on the government— not because we pushed them out into the cold, but because we understand that the reason we are exceptional is in this country the true freedom of prosperity doesn’t come from the mighty hand of the government; it comes from the power and people that control their own lives and their own destinies, and the dignity that comes from work. There’s a reason why in this country we take a day off to celebrate the 4 th of July and not the 15 th of April— because we celebrate our independence from the government not dependence on it.” [12:45]”

Good report on Walker. He’s taken all the trash that the leftist neo-fascist union could throw at him and won. Walker has a surplus of conservative guts.

That’s the kind of response we expect from DU trolls. First a lie with no proof, followed by an insult. You’re a real piece of work.

All sounds great, but I'm personally not going to get excited about what any GOP pol has to SAY anymore, it is what they do in the end that counts, and most of them are wanting in that area. Walker has been a fighter in WI, but his friendship with Priebus has me worried that he'll morph into a GOPe moderate if/when he gets to D.C.

"I like Walker a lot and I think, generally, governors make better presidents than senators do."

Go here for my unabashed synopsis of the 16' field:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3232647/posts?page=14#14

I've changed a bit since then, I have given up on Perry, Kasich, and Snyder and feel our final 3 should in alphabetical order are: Cruz, Pence and Walker.

You are so right of the final 3, 2 are Governors like Ronald Reagan.

IMHO anybody else than my final 3 are a Yugo with a fake hood scoop and racing stripes...
