The owner of a New Jersey deli shot and killed a man who police say was attempting to rob the store at gunpoint. New Jersey has made it almost impossible for law abiding citizens to own guns and concealed weapons permits are nearly impossible to acquire. Thugs in the state are not expecting an armed response and for this would be criminal, it will be his last attempt.

That's putting it mildly. In the 1990's I lived in New Hampshire but was born, raised and had most of my relatives living in New Jersey. We were down there on a visit when I found out that my Uncle Bob, who was in his late 60's and had never been arrested, had been waiting over a year on a permit to buy a Daisy Red Ryder 50th anniversary BB gun because he had owned one as a child. This was a gun that shot bbs at such a low velocity that you could watch them come out of the muzzle and he couldn't get one.
They sold Red Ryders in the local stores in NH so I went to Service Merchandise (remember that store?) in Plaistow, which is on the border of MA and NH, to get one. They said that the gun was out of stock but it was available in Methuen, MA. So we went to the store in Methuen only to be told that we had to fill out a permit application and wait for the Chief of Police to approve it before we could take it home. We told them to get stuffed.
My sister happened to be traveling to Maine on business so she picked up a Red Ryder at Kittery Trading Post and brought it back to my Uncle, who hung it over the mantle in his basement and probably died never having fired it. He just wanted a memory and the NJ Gestapo wouldn't let him have it.
