Supreme Court to Decide Whether Constitution Protects Same-Sex Marriage

Decision Later This Year Could Extend Gay Marriage to All 50 States or Cloud Existing Unions

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court on Friday said it would decide whether the U.S. Constitution gives same-sex couples the right to marry, signaling what could be the final chapter of a push by advocates to extend gay unions nationwide.

The court accepted challenges to same-sex marriage bans in four states—Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee—that a federal appeals court upheld in November 2014. The ruling by the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati departed from recent decisions by other appeals courts that found same-sex couples enjoyed a right to marry under the 14th Amendment’s equal-protection and due-process provisions.

The justices are taking up the issue in the middle of the court’s current term after having earlier rejected pleas by states to reinstate marriage restrictions that appellate courts had found unconstitutional. The Sixth Circuit ruling, the first to uphold the restriction of marriage to heterosexuals, created a split among the court circuits that didn’t exist in October, making it more likely the Supreme Court could get involved.

The court agreed to hear two specific constitutional questions on same-sex marriage laws and will hear extended arguments.

How come gay men only adopt boy babies and children?

Nevermind, I think I already know the perverted answer to that.

My thought is that a pro-homo ruling will quickly lead to a constitutional convention with a new amendment regarding the sanctity of marriage.

You need 38 states to ratify a constitutional amendment. There are 14 states that have enacted same-sex marriage by popular vote or by vote of the state legislature (CA, CT, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MN, NH, NY, RI, VT, WA), plus one state whose legislature voted for it but where it was vetoed by the Governor (NJ). So I don't think you would get more than 35 states to ratify that amendment (probably fewer).

Few of them need the money. It is the attention being craved. Look at what we are.

Then we are no better than Sodom and Gomorrah, and to quote Billy Graham’s late wife, “If God doesn’t judge America, He is going to owe Sodom and Gomorrah an apology.”

Did he mean that as solid theology, or a rueful wisecrack? What about Abraham’s bargain, where does that fit?

Another excellent opportunity for SCOTUS to reconfirm the Constitution’s recognition of the States as superior to fedgov.
As marriage is NOT among the enumerated powers, its ‘regulation’ remains with the State, or the People. Pretty straightforward, IMO.

But then, I am not a edookated lawyer-type; don’t even play one on TV, and I hate the Holiday Inn Express.

Have you done a survey? I know two gay male couples who adopted baby girls.

Has, ever, in the ENTIRE history of man, homosexuality been so embraced?

Well, hold on: Rome. And Soddom.

Look where those countries are now.

This is a queer situation, if the pun may be pardoned.

Actual practice is still down in the 5% range. Of those, the number who will countenance “marrying” is perhaps another tenth.

The tail is wagging the dog.

Kind of a “look at me” narcissism that queers seem to share.

once this is passed, the churches will be next. homos will push the issue of whether or not churches must perform homo rituals... which will decide (with precedent) the church is a private organization and is able to discriminate if it wants. at which point the homos will demand fedgov stop supporting the discriminating organization... by removing its tax free status. overnight, 80% of the churches will folder under the financial strain... which is the end game the homos are after

"Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."

-- Psalm 127:1

The physical survival of this free republic may well turn on what the "Supreme" Court does regarding the abomination of "gay" "marriage."

Because, they're not actually supreme, after all, except over the inferior courts.

"God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever."

-- Thomas Jefferson

In our system, power is supposed to reside ultimately in the people and the states. When the courts impose a decision over the votes of the people, they are essentially de-legitimizing our entire system of government, especially when they do it through the flimflam of fabricating new law from nothing. I and millions of others who voted against this perversion have been disenfranchised. With no legal recourse left, what does that leave......?

Just waiting for anyone to show me where in the constitution it states marriage is a constitutional right.
Also they have the same rights as us, we can marry the opposite sex just like them.
We cannot marry the same sex just like them.
Where is the discrimination then?

if they rule it’s the constitution protects it then al sorts of marriage is protected.

Why the hell can’t our side ask the judges where in the constitution it states marriage is a right and we can marry the opposite sex, so can they.
We can’t marry the same sex, neither can they.

Where is their frigging argument then and why can’t our side raise this issue
