Rand Paul Breaks With Rubio and Bush Over Cuba

Rand Paul Breaks With Rubio and Bush Over Cuba Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is the latest potential presidential candidate to weigh in on policy changes to Cuba and the libertarian leaning Republican's position splits from other Republicans who are also considering a presidential run.

Paul told Tom Roten of News Talk 800 in West Virginia that the 50-year embargo "just hasn't worked" and normalizing relations with the island nation is "probably a good idea."

"If the goal is regime change, it sure doesn't seem to be working and probably it punishes the people more than the regime because the regime can blame the embargo for hardship," he said.

I would support normalization with Cuba after the Castro brothers meet Ceaucescu’s fate

If I were one of the glorious Cuban's who accomplished that feat I wouldn't accept normalization until Il Dunce meets Il Duce's fate. WE wouldn't be worthy.

It looks like Ron isn’t the only crackpot in the Paul family.

So it is simply a matter of proximity that determines how we deal with these things. Correct?

Proximity? What about the little part of supporting terrorism and communism worldwide for all these years, plus the Castro bothers not showing one little bit of remorse, they still support communism and are proud of it.

We have a _resident that supports these turkeys, do you too?

No. Vietnam and China like Russia (and unlike Cuba) have moved to free market economies.

And so does cuba. However it is on a small scale via local markets. If trade opened up that would explode and help pull cuba into our sphere of influence. The old castros brothers are about to kick the bucket so this is the perfect time to bring cuba back to the gleaming capitalist paradise it once was.

Yes, but what incentivized China, Russia, and Viet Nam to move toward free market economies? Did they do this of their own accord? I don’t think so. It may be precisely because of the proximity of Cuba that a reverse process comes into play. I don’t know. Do you think Cuba will be less open, or more open to free market economy because of recent/pending changes?

This I do know: nothing is as it appears, all things are worthy of careful study, and God wins in the end. Truth and righteousness always prevail. Sometimes the enemy is too stupid to know he is but a pawn in the bigger scheme of things.

Last time I read up on my history, cuba and castro didn’t kill 58,000 Americans like the vietnames did. Yet we have been surfing there and having trade and travel as though it never happened.

Germany supported the “little part” of a Jewish holocaust in time. Where do we stand with Germany now? Japan was once bent on the “little part” of world domination through some form of Shintoism. Where do we stand with Japan now?

I am more opposed to our President’s ideas and methods than you may realize, not only because he is unqualified on legal and cognitive grounds, but also because his vision for this country is in direct conflict with the principles circumscribed by our Constitution and boundaries. At the same time, reality requires an accurate assessment of the people of Cuba, their leaders, and how best to expose them to our way of life.

My attitude and aptitude are not inclined to dismiss anything out of hand. 90% of the responses on this thread are little more than knee-jerk name calling. Sucks to be a lemming. There is a good argument to make against this current trend with Cuba. I’m trying to find it if you don’t mind.

I understand, knock yourself out.

The leaders of Germany and Japan were defeated, sadly the Castro’s are still there and enjoying our _residents capitulation.

When did the memo go out that it was conservative to tell Americans where they can’t go and where they can’t spend their $$$?

When this was announced, most FReepers cheered. Then, the yahoos started shouting. It’s good for ratings on talk radio and FNC, I guess.

I used to support the embargo. Maybe it was right a long time ago. Now, it’s a destructive joke. I side with that liberal William F. Buckley. Rand is right. Rubio is Lindsey Graham without the testosterone.
