Obama asked Congress on Monday for $263 million for the federal response to the civil rights upheaval in Ferguson, Missouri, and is setting up a task force to study how to improve modern-day policing.
The funds would pay for body cameras for police officers to use and expand training for law enforcement in an attempt to build trust in communities such as Ferguson, where a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer in the August shooting death of an unarmed black teenager, the White House said...
The $263 million would be spread over three years and would help purchase 50,000 body-worn cameras...

President Barack Obama is expected to sign an executive order to encourage "more oversight of federal programs that dole out military gear to local police departments", senior administration officials said Monday.
The executive order will direct agencies that distribute military-style equipment to local police to require training for cops that receive the gear. The president will also require officials to create a central database to track the supplies, as a significant number of weapons and vehicles previously allocated have gone missing.

I think I like the idea of body cameras. I don’t like Obama putting his finger in the dike, however. Big government effectively ruins any good idea.
Instead of paying for training and maintenance for MRAPS, sell the MRAPS to civilian collectors and/or friendly nations and use the money for body-worn cameras for the police.
