Six months ago, Ferguson, Missouri, was the kind of nameless suburb visitors to the city of St. Louis passed through. That was before a white police officer shot an unarmed black teenager on a street this summer and months of daily protests transformed the unassuming city into a symbol.
Ferguson is now a word that evokes feelings.
Though it has been less than four months since Michael Brown was killed, the town seems to have entered the pantheon of places that stand as metaphors. Fergusons symbolism now sits alongside Selmas significance in the civil rights movement, Columbine as a symbol of teenage rage and gun violence, and Kent States historic link to anti-war protests. Those are places that have adjusted some more smoothly than others to their emblematic meaning.
In Ferguson, dozens of buildings and vehicles burned Monday night after the announcement of the grand jurys decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson in Browns killing. It is impossible to imagine that the town will ever be the same. And people who knew the Ferguson of old are grappling with the change.
Throngs of reporters, representing more than 100 media organizations at the height of the news story, traveled to the town to cover the protests some peaceful, others with flashes of violence....

Just as the International Left wanted it.
Man, these libtard writers really know how to shovel manure.
“Unarmed black teenager”

“Six months ago, Ferguson, Missouri, was the kind of nameless suburb visitors to the city of St. Louis passed through.”
Yes and now it’s a place where thugs, looters and race baiter’s gather. A place where businesses are looted and burned to the ground.
Yeah, it’s a symbol alright.
A symbol of thugs, robbery, assault, looting, cursing, radical socialists and communists, black crime, a place not fit for business.
Everyone take a drink...
Are you trying to kill us?
The authors are correct. The facts of Ferguson don’t matter to the Left - what matters is the myth and how it can be exploited. To repeat one of my favorite quotes:
“The issue is never the issue. The issue is the revolution.”
—David Horowitz, quoting unnamed SDS leader.

The thing is, if they hadn’t shot their wad on Ferguson, this Cleveland shooting would have been a much more effective thing for them to seize on, but it’s too late, they decided Ferguson would be the hill to die on.
Mike Tyson is technically “unarmed”.
Anybody wanna try and subdue him?
How about Chuck Norris?
Such crapaganda.
Here in Brooklyn they had what appears to be a completely unjustified shooting by a cop; they’re trying to drum up publicity, but unfortunately they still focus on Ferguson. In the case here, I wouldn’t be surprised if the cop goes to prison, and from the limited amount I know about it, he should.
Everything in this country is a symbol. Nothing is just what it is. One cop shoots a violent criminal who is charging him, and it becomes a symbol of Whites oppressing Blacks.
Say “Columbine” and what comes to mind? “Katrina”, “Abu Ghraib”. The left and the media have changed these to symbols.
Actually, the Ferguson case is what they like. They pretend they wanted Wilson to be indicted. They really did not want an indictment because their reason to use this to riot would have been diminished.
This whole thing was never about Brown, it was about starting chaos and racial division.
Yes, it symbolizes the day my "Give a f@s" ran out.
a symbol of what? how every cop should respond when attacked?
a symbol for kids not to rob stores or attack cops?
a symbol of what bad parenting reaps?
“a symbol of what? how every cop should respond when attacked?

You missed the most obvious: A symbol of black stupidity.
The “no-mind” Street Rats burned down half their commercial businesses, the same businesses that offer jobs and potential for some of them who are willing to work to get out of their existing life cycle of always taking or stealing, instead of working for what they have.
It’s almost like they’ve been WAITING for this to happen. They’ve been wallowing in self-pity all these years, and FINALLY a white cop shoots a black kid and now they can have their insurrection. It doesn’t matter that the black kid was completely at fault. This is the closest they’re going to get to an incident they can mold into a cause. They’re not about to let this opportunity go to waste.
