Vermont Right to Life Committee Treasurer Sharon Toborg emailed a warning to pro-life Vermonters this week asking them to be careful of who they trust on the telephone. It seems that someone has been calling pro-lifers in the state claiming to be from the Pro-Life Committee or the National Pro-Life Committee.
The caller is asking for donations by telephone to help the pro-life movement, however, it is definitely not a call from the Vermont Right to Life Committee (VRLC) or the National Right to Life Committee, which the VRLC is affiliated with.
Toborg says VRLC has not solicited funds by telephone for years and that these calls are a scam from a fake group. She advises anyone who has pledged money to this fake group to not follow through on it. Anyone who receives such a call should contact their local police department. Toborg also advises anyone who received a letter or pledge form as a result of this phone scam to send a copy to the VRLC office at PO BOX 1079, Montpelier, VT 05601 so they can further investigate.
Pro-lifers in other states should also be wary of anyone calling for solicitations. If it seems like a scam and you are unable to verify who the caller is, do not pledge any money.
The safest way to donate to pro-life organizations is either by speaking directly to the pro-life organization itself, or donating directly, through a secure form provided, on their official website.
Got rid of my land-line phone a few months back, just because all it was was a source of telemarketers/ beggars. Wish I had done it years ago.
I get just as many telemarketers on my cell phone as I do on my house phone. I wish I could make them stop. I just got a new cell # and it didn’t stop them.
haven’t had a land line in more than 20 years.
I’ve had a cellphone for at least 20 years, same number, and I rarely get any calls from telemarketers on it.
I just hang up on anyone asking for anything. I hardly let them get their first sentence out, before I cut them off. After I did it a few times, I thought it was fun, and I do it without hesitation now.
That was a classic, especially the last question he asked the guy. If that guy was on TV, I would watch him.
My land line has had four telemarketing calls today. Congresmen accept campaign contributions from them so wont pass a law to stop it. The no call list does not work.
No Call List-No call registry- 1-888-382-1222
You must call from the phone you want blocked.
It seems to for us. No telemarketing calls on any land line or cell for at least a couple years.
It worked for us. You do have to reregister every few years, at least in the past, but I just recently heard that you won’t have to anymore, once the number’s on there it’s on there forever. We’ve always called from the number we’re blocking.
Beggars (by whatever name) SELL each other phone lists of prospective MARKS...
Are you a mark?...
If you get these calls YOU ARE!..
“Sure, I’ll donate, but hurry up and mail me the bill so I can include it in with the other bankruptcy debts before the court deadline.”
“Sure, I’ll donate. Can you give me your bank account number and routing address? I’ll do it electronically.”
“Sure, I’ll donate. Can you give me your Tax ID number so I can send a 1099 to the IRS?”
“Sure, I’ll donate. Do you take food stamps?”
“Sure, I’ll donate, but first give me your group’s Tax ID number. I work for the IRS and I’d like to look you guys up at the office first.”
I used to give phone calls like this to my young daughter and let her yammer on to them. Years later, I started giving the phone to my grand daughters. Lately, I just plain started giving them one of the answers above.
Telemarketers. I get the calls from Rachel of Cardholder Services during work hours. So the best I can respond is a high pressure sales pitch for Brawndo the Thirst Mutilator (c). Otherwise I might actually ask for Rachel and ask NSFW questions about her.
“Hey Rachel....you sound kinda sexy. What are you wearing right now? Why don’t you give me your address and you and I can hook up later. Are you into spanking?”
I got 3 robo calls on my cell phone yesterday.
That doesn’t work anymore. It worked good for several years but then it stopped working.
You’re welcome, anyway.
Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. I’ll try it again. I have already tried it numerous times and it never worked like it did the first time.
