Got rid of my land-line phone a few months back, just because all it was was a source of telemarketers/ beggars. Wish I had done it years ago.
I just hang up on anyone asking for anything. I hardly let them get their first sentence out, before I cut them off. After I did it a few times, I thought it was fun, and I do it without hesitation now.
Beggars (by whatever name) SELL each other phone lists of prospective MARKS...

“Sure, I’ll donate, but hurry up and mail me the bill so I can include it in with the other bankruptcy debts before the court deadline.”
“Sure, I’ll donate. Can you give me your bank account number and routing address? I’ll do it electronically.”
“Sure, I’ll donate. Can you give me your Tax ID number so I can send a 1099 to the IRS?”
“Sure, I’ll donate. Do you take food stamps?”
“Sure, I’ll donate, but first give me your group’s Tax ID number. I work for the IRS and I’d like to look you guys up at the office first.”
I used to give phone calls like this to my young daughter and let her yammer on to them. Years later, I started giving the phone to my grand daughters. Lately, I just plain started giving them one of the answers above.
