Gay Blood Donation Ban Could Be Lifted: Gay men may donate blood if abstinent for a year.

Gay men just got a step closer to being able to donate blood.

Since 1983, men who have had sex with men anytime since 1977 were barred from donating blood, a policy put in place because of the HIV/AIDs epidemic, which especially ravaged the gay community in its early years.

But on Thursday, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety voted 16-2 to tweak the ban, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, suggesting instead that men who have had sex with men could give blood, but with a caveat. They’d have to be abstinent for one year.

It will be the Food and Drug Administration that makes the final call, but generally the HHS panel’s advice is respected.

It’s well past time to start making these people accountable for their absurd decisions, and it’s also past time to make the voters understand that their voting habits have consequences, IMO.

It’s just sooo unfair that monogamous heterosexuals should not also experience the horror of AIDs. Sh!t for brains progressive arbiters of PC.

Back in the 1990’s, I worked with a guy who got very sick. He tested negative for HIV at first. Several weeks later, he was near death and after running more tests , he tested positive. Turns out, he had unprotected sex with a man in Germany a month or two before. But, while he was infected, so close to his exposure, he tested negative.

Great why don’t we risk people’s live for the sake of political correctness-Obama is OUT to kill us all.

God forbid that there’s a shotty hospital where you live that doesn’t screen their blood well.

In memory of a dear fiend who was transfused with infected blood following knee surgery in 1984 and died of AIDS.

RIP. Prayers for her.

Is there really a blood shortage so severe that we really need risky blood from less than 3% of the public?

These people absolutely can’t stand anything that differentiates them from everyone else. The fact that common sense and health are involved makes No difference—the feeling of gay people trump everything apparently.

Make no mistake, people will die because of this and the MSM will cover it up. Anyone who speaks the truth will see their career and reputations shredded.

Yes, the PC a$$ clowns that allow this need to be held accountable.

I don’t see how anything can go wrong with this!

Can you imagine the law suites when people start getting tainted blood. Being non-profit doesn’t make one immune from negligence law suites, just ask the Catholic Church. Red Cross had better up their testing programs. They charge hundreds of dollars for blood and blood products that they receive in donations every year.

I was to understand that the dormancy period for HIV was several years if not longer.

Is it possible for a homosexual to abstain for a year? Where they unable to get to a freeway rest stop?

My understanding is that the dormancy period for HIV is often years or decades. Is this not correct?

So, a claim of abstinence on the honor system is good enough? Ask any woman who has been cheated on by a man if there is an honor system in sex.
