WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Sen. Mitch McConnell was elected majority leader for the next Senate, reports said Thursday. The selection of McConnell by his fellow Senate Republicans was unanimous. McConnell, of Kentucky, now serves as Senate minority leader. He will assume his new role when the next Congress convenes in January.

The first act the new Republican congress should pass is an appropriations bill to buy to some spines.
Meet the new boss..........................same as the old boss..................
Here we go again! If you keep doing what you have always done, don’t expect the outcome to change.
Once again the rhino’s screwed the entire nation. They will be losers all their lives. I trust they will not expect any money from me again.
The tradition of failure continues!
That was a bold move. To remain relevant, the GOP must make bold moves also. But I'm betting they won't.
As just one example, I read the other day that one of McConnell's priorities in the next Congress is to repeal the tax on medical devices. Really? While reducing taxes is a good think, I'm certain that few GOP voters care much about that issue.
We want bold action.
Sometimes I wonder if “just to oust Harry Reid” was worth re-electing these gutless turds!
Maybe THIS time it will be different......................
won’t matter. he won’t honor them anyways.
If he keeps out of the damn way, I couldn’t care less.
Give Cruz the leash to yank the turtle when necessary.
Duh...... do you think so?
Of course it does
“Hopefully that means he cut a few deals with Cruz in order to get the unanimous vote.”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Excellent point. “Unanimous” means presumably that he got the votes of Cruz, Lee, and the other more Tea Party types.
It will be interesting to see MM’s “quo” to TC’s “quid”.
Prayers that the whole Senate, esp MM, and all of our government move steadily to the Right.
You can’t run for president and head up the party in the senate. Ask Bob Dole. Thus, Cruz is better where he is.
Seniority rules.... Who can get elected the most can become the leaders.
Once in a while maybe someone other than the aged ones gets a little say so.
I see these comments bashing someone who was successful in leading the minority party to be the majority party.
I know Mitch McConnell personally. I worked for him when he first got into politics when he was just a county judge. Back then in Kentucky County Judge was a political patronage plumb job. It meant that you could give jobs to all your political hacks. In those days county employees had to give 2% of their pay to the party in power. Judge McConnell got ordinances and laws passed that stopped the practice. He was one of the best organized people I ever saw, if he said he would do it he did it.
I did not vote for him in the primary, I too would like fresh blood, more conservative blood in the Senate but, we could do a whole lot worse than Mitch McConnell.
We should at least give credit where credit it due. Lets see now what he does with it. I expect it to be a whole lot better than Harry Reid.
Prayers for McConnell (especially wisdom)
.... he’s such a spineless disaster elitist, better pray for the Republic.. and freedom. Much bigger need at this point.
ymmv
...well that credit is over 30 years old... I don’t expect him to be much better than Dingy, other than to give Obola cover as a GopE....
we hope that he surprises us, but knowing where his bread is buttered, not holding any breath.
ymmv
I don't think Ted Cruz is spineless. If he supported McConnell, he must have gotten a deal.
I understand and appreciate your point of view. However, the country is heading toward a very serious constitutional crisis between the executive and legislative branches. It is evident that Obama intends to wilfully bypass the congress at every turn and there’s no telling how far he will go to achieve his power grab.
The stark reality is that he has very powerful resources at his disposal that can and will be used against the congress and the American people. Things are going to get very ugly and the democratic foundation of our Republic will be shaken to its core.
Its a truism that extraordinary challenges require extraordinary leadership. I just don’t believe that McConnell (or for that matter Boehner) is up to this type of all out political warfare. The GOP desperately needs an injection of new vitality and leadership with deep conservative convictions who are willing to go to battle with Obama and restore the principles of separation of powers. Just my two cents.
Agree. Its all on the line now. This is existential.
I’ll pray for him.
