There is no possibility of a government shutdown. Remember me? Im the guy that gets us out of government shutdowns,
Soon-to-be-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to Time magazine
The lefties over at Think Progress were elated.
It was September 30, 2013, and they thought they had the GOP right where they wanted it as Texas Senator Ted Cruz plowed ahead with the idea of defunding Obamacarean action that caused Democrats to promptly shut down the government and blame not just Cruz but the Republican Party. The whole event was giving prominent Republicans in and out of office the political willies.
Think Progress loved it. So much did they love it that they spent some time making a list of Republican senators, congressmen, governors, ex-office holders, potential presidential candidates, lobbyists and pundits who were spreading the word. That word? If Senator Cruz went ahead with his plan, it was some version of curtains for the GOP. The party would be toast.
Cruz sailed on, confident he would be seen not only as right but that what he was doing was a boost to the GOP. It was, in fact, the exact same strategy that Ronald Reagan employed when he would veto a bill knowing full well he would be overridden by both Democrats and less than courageous Republicans in Congress yet issuing the veto to draw a line between Democrats and Republicans so Americans would understand the bright line that was supposed to divide the two parties. At The American Spectator dinner last fall at which Cruz, along with Donald Trump, was featured? Cruz was candid. He recounted his criticisms from GOP colleagues in the Senate and noted that he had asked them for their alternative. Cruz paused, then said that the response he got was the sound of crickets chirping.

No denying it, he's right. Ted Cruz won 2014 - He was the only one who stood strong and rallied the people to toss out the rats.
Yes!
Looking back at Sequestration and the shutdown....it was a bunch of nothing, over nothing, about nothing. For the news media to stretch it out, and some political dimwits to say it took the Republicans down three notches...they just plain got it wrong. It dragged the Democrats down three notches, and made the news media look like 5th grade kids.
“What Ted Cruz accomplished last fall was drawing a very bright Reaganesque line that differentiated Republicans from Democrats. Political disaster was uniformly predicted. Instead? The exact opposite happened.
Will Republicans learn anything here?”
We can hold hope that they will learn this lesson well. We can also wish and hope we get unicorns for Christmas...
The pubbies long ago morphed into dhimmicrap-lite.
The Naysayers and RINOS will just say that there is no connection between the two and some will go on to say that this election landslide would have been bigger had it not been for Cruz’s actions.
The RINOs will never - ever admit it — they work to never share power with Conservatives ... thus we have to replace them one by one...
“.we have to replace them one by one...”....
WE missed a great opportunity when McConnell got the re-election nod.
The obfuscation from the Left and complicit media, along with GOP wimps distort the entire effort, as they do each and every time. It was the Dems that voted for the shut down, Cruz drew the line in the sand. They same pack are the ones who have distorted the meaning and members of a grass root Tea Party movement as well. And what do they offer? Such things as a freaking dumb joke like the “Super-committee”, who cannot reach a compromise. And as certain as the sun comes up in the morning, Republicans get blamed for that as well. At least on the blame part, Rove is still correct. That has to change; they still hold the narrative. I see glimpses of change in that area but not nearly enough.
On this “Armistice Day” I recall another “Government Shutdown”
In flyover country what “shutdown”? We all went about our business. Mail was still delivered which was allways late. Those who were lucky enough to have jobs went to work. Went to the store coping with increasing prices caused by the radicals in the EPA playing with restrictions saving the world from globull warming. Toilets worked. Schools were open so were the saloons and restaurants. Was DC any different ?
No comparison by the media drawn to other “shutdowns”. For example the democrats using the disolving Nixon administration as an excuse to freeze out funding the South Viet Nam government which resulted in not only an ignominious defeat. But left millions in that country which supported our efforts at the mercy as well of the communists only to be butchered later. Or the thousands of American troops who died there abandoned by the democrats because they had abandoned the cause of liberty and democracy for a socialist agenda then, as well as today.
The biggest thing the shutdown and the Republican win did was give Cruz campaign commercials for the primaries.
It was when Obama and his attitude, his hatred of the people, was unmasked for all to see. A lot of people had their eyes opened then. It was overkill.
This can also apply to the RINO's. The shutdown was conducted by President Obama, but blamed on the Tea Party. RINO's went along with this and predicted disaster. Not so.
Democrats tell Republicans, that they'll never win another Presidential election, if they don't pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform. RINO's go along and agree and paint the Tea Party as nativists, obstructionists, xenophobes, etc, etc. Not so. RINO's, the smartest Republicans, the Elite, the Establishment, the one's who control the GOP, never bother to ask themselves why the Democrats would care whether the GOP never wins another Presidential election. GOP-e never asks itself that when the Democrats had supermajorities in the Senate, House and had the Presidency never passed Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Maybe because it's electoral poison. But our betters can't figure this out.
The Democrats/Media tell us after every electoral victory that what the voters want is for the GOP to walk with the Democrats to "get something done". Not so. The GOP-e goes along with this, just listen to McConnell and Boehner after another unearned crushing victory. Obama has put immigration at the top of the agenda, the GOP-e is about to murder the GOP victory by going along. The voters want amnesty killed, and not some deal made. The voters want the economy turned around. That's the number one priority. Keystone pipeline, turn the war on coal into a war on the EPA. There are a zillion things to do.
The GOP base distrusts the GOP-e. The GOP-e isn't ignorant, it's just that so many things they know, just aren't so.
What other "not so" items can we post about the GOP-e.
Yep that’s it....lets tear down Ted Cruz...why do people try to do this? We all know that Ted would make a better leader than Mitch...so lets get behind Ted and turn this Country around and quit playing footies with the RATS...
Ultimately this is what it will take. PERMANENTLY shut down swathes of the feral gummint. Gummint workers can continue to go to work, if they wish. They just won’t get paid. There will be no elecricity, running water or anything else.
Remember #PresidentStompyFoot?
It was exactly as you say. It was obvious to all who chose to see.
This should have been exploited POLITICALLY to the max by the GOPe. However, the GOPe was too timid. They hid from controversy, preferring to enjoy the perks of their positions rather than risk discomfort by taking any risks.
They squandered the political opportunity of a lifetime.
It dragged the Democrats down three notches, and made the news media look like 5th grade kids.
...
So it was something, but not what the liberals said.
Looks like they want to make certain Cruz et al don't make trouble for them for as long as possible.
These bastards are going to blow it - AGAIN.
