A 24-year-old aspiring actress has been filmed being catcalled 108 times as she strolled around New York City - even though she was wearing a plain T-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Shoshana Roberts, a graduate of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, was captured on a hidden camera by her friend, Rob Bliss, as she walked through the city's streets. Over a ten-hour period, she was pelted with dozens of unsolicited comments, including: 'What's up beautiful?', 'Hey baby', 'Smile' and 'Have a nice evening darling'. She was even followed by some men for several minutes, with one repeatedly asking her: 'You don't wanna talk? Because I'm ugly?' Others winked at her, whistled and made inappropriate noises.

A couple of those guys were scary aggressive and I’m pretty tough. The one who walked beside her for five minutes... had that been me, my had would’ve been on my gun.
As far as I’m concerned, she proved her point. New Yorkers are jerks.
She was walking with purpose. She did nothing to draw attention to herself. She was dressed normally - not provocatively.
Most of these guys acted like it was pure reflex. No hesitation at all.
No, I don’t agree that the ‘have a nice evening’ would be considered a cat call. But I can also understand being fed up and irritated by that point and not wanting to hear another word out of a man’s mouth by the end of the day.
I heard that most of those who made comments were black. So is it sexist or racist? You just can’t keep track of all the various offenses these days.
This zaftig dingbat - wearing clothes that look spray-painted on - strolls past loitering low-lifes in a depressing part of town so she can be shocked and horrified by their insolent behavior.

She was catcalled like a cacophony from the boys on scaffolds....clung to my arm scared shiteless
She never did that again....I told her that was nightclub wear

I think the objection had to be the use of “darling”, it is sometimes used as a term of endearment but I can’t see how it would be in the least bit degrading. Many women have called me “darling”, “honey” or “sweety”. I never took offence it was just the way they talked.

If a woman dares to react, the exchanges turn nasty, even threatening
there is a thin veneer of decency on our civilization, as some situations reveal
if she gets “cat calls” I wonder what happens to attractive women?
She must be one of those plus sized actresses. I think she is getting cat calls because she’s a 3 on a scale of 10 and the guys think they actually have a chance with her.
If this bothers her, wait until she finds out the stuff she has to do to be successful in the acting biz.
Why do men talk to women on the street? Because every once in a while they get a positive response, and they’re the sort of guys willing to deal with a hundred rejections for every positive response.
Not my type, but I am from the NY area and I can assure everyone she will do just fine in life if she plays her cards right. Her looks are just perfect for legions of doctors and lawyers in the NYC area. I predict she will marry one of said doctor or lawyer, and live in a seven figure house in either Scarsdale, NY or Tenafly, NJ.
