The nurse who was confined against her will at a New Jersey hospital after treating Ebola patients in West Africa is seeking time to decompress at an undisclosed location in Maine, her lawyer said Tuesday.
Kaci Hickox's partner, a nursing student, has opted to stay away from the University of Maine at Fort Kent to be with her, a university official said. His off-campus home showed no sign of activity Tuesday.
"At this point, he has made a decision he has decided to take a break from campus," said Ray Phinney, associate dean of student life and development. "We don't know exactly when to expect him back," he added.
There was disagreement Tuesday over Hickox's status.
The state of Maine said she agreed to be quarantined, but her lawyer insisted there's no quarantine.
Steve Hyman, one of Hickox's lawyers, said the state should follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that require only monitoring, not quarantine, for health care workers who show no symptoms after treating Ebola patients.
He said he expected her to remain in seclusion for the "next day or so" while he works with Maine health officials.
There was no immediate clarification from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services or from the governor's office.
Hickox, who volunteered in Africa with Doctors Without Borders, was the first person forced into New Jersey's mandatory quarantine for people arriving at Newark Liberty from three West African countries.
She spent the weekend in a quarantine tent despite her objections over her treatment at Newark Liberty International Airport.

So, you would have done the same thing for Dr. Craig Spencer? Then, you'd be in quarantine.
This nurse wasn't a missionary. She was a voluntary that happens to also be a liberal activist.
Are you bothering to read the press about this? It’s in her own story, for God’s sake. And where did you pick up this nonsense about a bucket? Do you know anything about this story, lol?!
She was in a nice big tent which was within a building. It had a cot and blanket, tv set, wifi, etc. I’ve actually visited people in New Jersey jails - now those are dirty and 3rd world.
“a tent in Newark.”
I hear in NJ they call that an upscale 1 bedroom condo.
It is called a “risk to the health of the nation”.
Duncan had no symptoms either, and he nearly killed at least 2 Americans and cost the country many millions of dollars.
Those that are identified as posing a risk should be forced into mandatory quarantine or forget crossing the border.
....”the lackadaisical attitude these health professionals have towards this”.....
Not surprising when considering this is the “entitlement all about me and my rights” generations. The comments made from the nurse tat the beginning depict this fully and continue to. I believe it’s going to get worse.

Hickox is a nurse who had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Sierra Leone. Officials said she was taken to a hospital after developing a fever, but Hickox said she was merely flushed because she was upset by the process.
Her temp was elevated.
I don’t care if she has to sh!t in her hands.
The needs of the many supersede the rights of one whining, attention seeking, crybaby leftist who WORKED WITH DYING BLEEDING EBOLA PATIENTS.
re: Personally I prefer that the nurse be confined against her will than my family be diseased against my will after she wandered aimlessly all over the country infecting American citizens with Ebola...
Absolutely! I think she is the epitome of a narcissistic drama queen who believes her rights to do as she pleases take precedence over the rights of others to avoid being exposed to a deadly disease. I have experienced a quarantine myself during the early days of the H1N1 epidemic when one of my family members tested positive for it. No one in my household whined about the experience, saying it wasn’t fair that we were told to stay home. We actually felt a responsibility not to take chances exposing other people.
Also, Miss Bozo was crying through her lawyer that she had no television or reading material but, both were clearly visible in the picture she posted- there was a video screen as well as newspapers on the floor.
Typical leftist. Lie about everything to fit your agenda.
“. We cannot stand for a government that arbitrarily locks America citizens in quarantine, throws them in a tent with a bucket to use as a bathroom.
That is not the American way and is akin to conditions in a third world prison camp.”
Wrong, it IS the American way and was done for centuries. It is one of the positive steps taken to turn the country into the best country in the world. The 3rd world countries are filthy hell holes because they do not practice strict hygiene and take public health measures seriously.
Wanting to emulate those disease infested countries with open borders will lead to bringing our health standards down to theirs.
Hickox said she was merely flushed because she was upset by the process.

bad tempered tantrum ???
Where does it say she had a fever of 101?
Yes, the tent and its furniture looked perfectly OK to me. She was so distressed, she took smiling selfies.
It could have been much worse - they could have locked her up in a Red Roof motel.
***We actually felt a responsibility not to take chances exposing other people.***
This is how most concerned, selfless people will behave, but prima donna nurse Hickox doesn’t really care. I think she was there as a resume enhancement, because of her attitude upon coming back to the US. She is better than the rest of us, in her mind.
She is a disgrace.
I don’t wish ebola on anyone, but if I had to pick...
She was living in a friggin’ jungle for cripes sakes.
Can you cite a source for her 101 fever?
Oh yes, when I get flushed, I run a fever. /sarc
For one month. From her original article, with that awful photograph of a quarantined pig sty, I thought she was there for 2 or 3 years.
